ay to Mostly Mutts after being rescued from a cruelty case. I came in with patches of fur loss along my body, likely from chemical burns, but thankfully my skin has healed and some of my beautiful fur is already growing back. We don't know yet how much of it will return, but I'm not letting my past define me. I've left those days behind and am looking ahead with a happy heart to a bright future filled with love, gentle care, and all the good things I deserve. I'm ready to find my special family and show them just how sweet and loving I am! I also came in heartworm positive, but I'll be treated for that soon and I hope to be with my new family before my treatment starts. • OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS: I met other dogs at Mostly Mutts and did not like them, so I'd like to be your only dog. / Cats unknown. / I haven't met kids yet at Mostly Mutts, so let's meet and best no toddlers that I may bump over. • PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL: I'm a sweet, affectionate, and friendly girl with a busy, playful personality and plenty of happy energy! I can be a little unsure at times, but once I'm comfortable, I love being close to people and even give great hugs. I was wonderfully calm for my bath and ear cleaning, too. I can be somewhat of a door dasher, so please take care around doors and gates to help keep me safe and prevent me from getting lost. I'm a fun-loving girl with lots of affection to share! / Energy level: 5-7. • SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY: I'm in the Mostly Mutts University training program and have already mastered the 'sit', 'down', 'come' and 'leave it' commands as well as how to accept friendly strangers without jumping on them. I look forward to learning more, so let's continue my training together with the free lifetime training classes that Mostly Mutts offers for all their adopted dogs! / My crate manners are good at Mostly Mutts. / I'm having some accidents on the shelter schedule as I'm sure I wasn't properly trained in my former situation, so I'll need my new family to help me master this. • LIKES/DISLIKES: I love toys, cuddle time, and being close to people as well as being active with them! I may jump for joy when I'm excited, but what I really want is a cozy lap, lots of pets, and plenty of love and attention. / Other than being mistreated I can't think of any dislikes though like all dogs, I'm sure I wouldn't like it if I didn't get enough love, attention, exercise, and training. • MEDICAL: I'm current on annual vaccinations, micro-chipped and spayed. I have moderate tartar on my teeth, so my adoptive family should consult with their vet and consider a dental cleaning in the future. Since I wasn't kept on heartworm prevention previously, I'm HW positive. The good news is that I'll be treated for that soon and Mostly Mutts will cover the cost of that treatment with their vet, so local adoption please. I hope to be with my family before treatment starts! I'm a wonderful dog looking for a family that will treasure me for life! My adoption fee is $299.00, and I'm located in Kennesaw, Ga.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
