TO THE CONTACTS BELOW, FOR INFORMATION ON THIS DOG. THE RESCUE DOES NOT HAVE POSSESSION OR KNOWLEDGE ABOUT TRAITS, BEHAVIORS, OR ANY DETAILS OTHER THAN WHAT IS LISTED BELOW. Julie - 303-503-0786 kristin: kjpcjcrccmsn Spud, male, neutered, microchipped DOB: May 17, 2023, 3 yrs+ old Weight: 24/25 lbs Breed: Mixed, looks like a standard dachshund long body but long legs. The face and body speed resembles a whippet. His coat is possibly a type of terrier. Temperament: Great, friendly to all my visitors and loves tummy rubs. Input from initial placement said he had previous altercation with a large dog so defensive (scars noted on face). He is defensive on walks seeing a larger dog. He has met several smaller dogs face to face and is excited to meet and play. Initial placement stated he would not be good with small children who pull on his tail or hang on him. I've had no opportunity to test this situation. I have a 13-year-old niece that he was just fine with. So the size of a child might make the difference. Energy Level: Very energetic. Loves to chase squirrels on fence lines and bunnies. He did find three baby bunnies in a ground planter box. Unfortunately they did not survive. Therefore to me he is somewhat prey oriented. Training: Sit, somewhat shake, potty and poopy commands great, recall by name okay if not distracted by squirrels/bunnies/neighbor dogs barking. I adopted him on May 23, 2025. The breed was not defined at the time. I have a female cat, 11 years old who has been with me for 6+ years. I spend much of my time trying to bring them together and even did a training session at my house. I have a small two bedroom one bath ranch and have had to keep the two animals apart due to Spud's prey instinct. I rotate the cat in the house evenings while the dog sleeps in another room otherwise the dog is out during the day and has access to a large back yard. After a year of trying to make this work I can no longer handle the cat/dog separation needs along with a very energetic dog. I don't take this need for rehoming lightly. I want to find a positive home environment for Spud. I have had six pets in my lifetime, including dog/cat together. I truly feel it's time to find a home for Spud that could provide a more active lifestyle with no space restrictions. My cat is going through some medical issues recently which require more of my attention. The house rotation is stressful. He is a great dog!! Just not the right fit with my cat. PLEASE NOTE: The breed listed is the information we've received from the shelter. Shelters usually guess at the breed, so there is no guarantee, as we don't DNA test our foster pets. Here is some interesting info on breed identification: arrcolorado/category/puppy-dog-tips/ Our adoption process is: 1. Fill out our Adoption Application online. We'll contact you within 48 hours to answer any questions you may have about the pet. 2. If the pet looks like a great match, we'll schedule a meet and greet and ask you to fill out our online Adoption Agreement if you'd like to proceed with adopting. Once you've completed the Adoption Agreement and pay the pet's Adoption Fee, you can arrange to pick up your new furry family member!

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
