Burke was surrendered by his family after a difficult situation involving their 7-year-old child, who had been getting too rough with him. Burke tried to nip the child once out of frustration, and his family made the responsible decision to surrender him to his longtime groomer, who has known and cared for him since he was a puppy.
Since arriving with his groomer, Burke has been showing everyone what a sweet and playful guy he really is. He has been living around her 18-month-old and 4-year-old daughters and plays with them happily and appropriately. He has always had a wonderful relationship with her daughter, and he has done well with other dogs, too.
Burke is house-trained, crate-trained, leash-trained, affectionate, playful, and loves his toys. Fetch is one of his favorite games, and this boy is always ready for some fun! He has moderate energy and would love a home that will give him plenty of playtime, walks, and interaction with his people.
Burke does have one thing his future family should understand: he prefers to eat his meals separately and may growl if another dog approaches his food. He has never attacked over food, but his boundaries should be respected, and his meals should be managed appropriately.
Burke is looking for a family who understands that dogs need to be treated with kindness and respect and who will continue helping him feel safe and secure. In return, you're getting a fun-loving, affectionate companion who enjoys people, other dogs, car rides, toys, and a good game of fetch.

Adopting a dog is a commitment that will require annual veterinary care at a minimum, training, exercise, enrichment, etc. Pet care is not cheap or easy and adopters should consider the costs, time and training prior to adoption. After all these dogs have been through, they deserve a loving, committed home.
