please fill out an Adoption Application. If you are only interested in temporarily Fostering one of our rescues, please fill out a Foster Application. Update 9/2/26 Carmi is a full grown 43lb healthy spayed, chipped and fully vaccinated, tested dog who has been fostered in san diego since February. She was originally rescued from Tijuana as well as her litter of 7 pups and we still have her pups Pickles and Sophie (in case you are interested in adopting two dogs she is great bff with Pickles, Sophie, Happy and Milley) she would be a great dog as a single dog or to add to your resident pack. Matches to a working adult adopter or a family with kids or retirees. Carmi is THE best doggo, why is she still with us? Don't know but it is certainly sad. Probably because she looks like a pitbull? She is a baja mutt, there is no option on the drop box to select that so we are going to select pitbull which means people don't even click on her bio, but those are facts. Would not doubt she also has poodle, chi, shepherd, and all the breeds in nationally and internationally like a good super mutt! If you are looking for an easy well behaved dog as a new dog owner then we think Carmi is the one for you! Carmi is a great dog park dog, she is pretty excellent with all dogs big and small. She ADORES humans, men, woman, children. Never had an issue with on or off leash. Have not seen any aggression or reactivity and she has been my foster dog since early March. She used to be VERY nauseous during car rides but now she is a big girl driving in the back seat and enjoys her car rides, she actually looks forward to them and is a great copilot. She is house, crate and potty trained. ZERO anxiety, not a barky dog, no problems when people come to the home to visit. She can be the life of the party at dog parks and also submit to the biger dogs. She clearly knows the alpha dogs and wants nothing to do with that energy. She would be great as an apartment dog who goes on walks or a house dog with a yard. She is pretty good on walks, she is not 'not a puller' but also not a horrible puller. Most anyone could adopt Carmi BUT if you have mobility or strenght issues she could be a problem if she pulls (she is strong when she wants to be) when she sees a lizard or squirrel which caught her attention. She can run fast but after 30min running in the dog park she is done for the most day until its time for another zoomie time. She will NOT be good for a home with cats unless you can safely keep them separated. I have cats and she does well with the baby gate but i do not leave her mingling around the home with the cats. This healthy girl is really amazing, even if we can find a foster for her on her own so they can help us network her by taking her place would be really helpful. If you like to help by fostering please submit an application to foster and if you'd like to adopt or foster with an intent to adopt please submit an adoption application at arwob and if you'd like to first speak with me (her foster mom) before submit applications or meet her before submiting an application you are welcome to email us or text me at 6199773593 to schedule a call and we can determine if we schedule a meet at the local dog park as well. She is a pretty amazing dog but her 'rougher' looks may be hindering her adoption. Thanks If you would like to meet one of our animals, PLEASE fill out an adoption application. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
