Here's Your Quick Peek: Sabrina and three of her siblings arrived in rescue at 8.5 weeks old. Her mom is an American Standard Poodle, and we have no idea who dad is. Sabrina has plenty of personality and loves being around people. She is playful, curious, affectionate, and always ready to see what is happening around her. Please note - if you want to skip the text and go straight to the application, you can find the link here: .carolinapoodlerescue/application/ Must have: Sabrina is young, active, and needs canine friends. If she will be an only dog, her family must provide regular opportunities for her to socialize and play with other dogs. Sabrina is not afraid of big or small dogs and enjoys playing with both. A securely fenced yard is required. Exercise: Sabrina is a young puppy, so she is either busy playing and exploring or ready for a nap and some cuddles! She needs lots of physical and mental stimulation every day. Sabrina loves her play mats and toys and can entertain herself for a while. She especially enjoys exploring the backyard and discovering new things. Best with: Other friendly, playful dogs; lots of attention and companionship; a family who enjoys an active puppy; a family committed to training and socialization; a securely fenced yard; and a family who wants to include her in everyday adventures. Sabrina would love to be a go-everywhere companion and enjoys being outside and going for walks. Not ideal for: Sabrina would not be the best match for a low-energy family, a home that doesn't want to put the time and effort into training and socializing a puppy, or a family where she would be left alone for long periods. She is also not appropriate for a home with allergies or concerns over a dog that sheds. Energy level: HIGH Sabrina is a happy, loving, playful little girl who seems to believe everyone she meets is a new friend. She loves being around people and dogs and is always ready for her next adventure - or a good puppy nap and cuddle. Sabrina who loves play mats and toys. She can entertain herself with toys for a while, but she definitely prefers having company. House training is a work in progress, leash training is just beginning, and she has had minimal experience with car rides - but she has enjoyed them so far. Sabrina is very food motivated and loves treats. Good with dogs: Yes! Sabrina loves dogs and enjoys having canine friends. If she is an only dog, regular playdates and socialization will be important. Good with Kids: Sabrina hasn't met children yet, but she loves everyone she has met so far. Cats: Unknown, she has never been around cats. Sabrina is in a foster home where there are no cats. Fun fact: Sabrina LOVES food! She is also a little go-everywhere puppy who enjoys being carried around and exploring the backyard. Potential Adopters Dogs can’t drive - and since we’re busy taking care of them, we can’t either! Please check your potential BFF’s location and make sure you’re comfortable traveling to meet them. Want updates and ways to help? 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
