black and tan boy is still growing and is expected to be a medium-sized dog when fully grown. Quibble had a rough start to life after being hit by a car and suffering a broken femur, but he has healed amazingly well and has never let it slow him down. He is smart, very food motivated, and already learning new skills. He is even working on sitting for treats while recovering from his injury! This playful boy absolutely loves toys, especially tug toys that he can shake around, and he enjoys Benebones, Kongs filled with canned food and treat puzzles. He figured out his treat puzzle right away! When playtime is over, Quibble is happy to curl up for a nap, often using a stuffed animal as his pillow. His favorite stuffed toy also helps him relax in his crate. Quibble loves other dogs and is happy to make new friends. He can be a little enthusiastic with his greetings, but he takes correction well from other dogs. He has also done well with a dog-savvy cat. Quibble has spent time around a 1-year-old and 3-year-old and has done well with them, although like most puppies, he is still working on his puppy mouthiness. Quibble is doing well with his house training but still has occasional accidents, and he understands how to use a potty pad. He is also making great progress with crate training, although he may fuss a bit if he is not tired and would rather be out playing. He has discovered his voice and sometimes likes to talk back to his people! Quibble has typical puppy energy: play hard, sleep hard! As he gets older, he will likely need moderate daily exercise along with plenty of mental stimulation and training. He does not require a fenced yard as long as his exercise and training needs are met. Because Quibble is accustomed to having people around much of the time, he will need a family who can gradually teach him that being alone is okay. He is not currently a good candidate for a home with shared walls, as he can be quite vocal when he is unhappy about being left alone. Quibble is a sweet, smart, playful puppy who has already overcome so much. He is ready for a loving family who will continue helping him learn, grow, and discover just how wonderful life can be! If you are interested in Quibble, fill out an application at this link to get the ball rolling - pethavenmn/adopt/adoptable-dogs/dog-adoption-application/ The adoption fee is $550. Adoption fee includes spay/neuter, heartworm/Lyme test, all age-appropriate vaccinations (distemper, rabies, and Bordetella), heartworm and flea/tick preventatives, and microchip implant (including registration). Adoption fees INCLUDE a mandatory sales tax of 7.525%. Age and breed are based on veterinarian and intake professional’s recommendation and not guaranteed as a rescue animal’s history is often unknown. Due to post-adoption services provided, we prefer to adopt within a 150-mile radius of the Twin Cities. However, we will consider up to 250 miles if the foster agrees to travel requirements and staff approval.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
