m becoming a mother so time was of the essence! She was accepted into the program immediately and placed in a foster home that could see her through the birth of her puppies! Arriving on a Wednesday, Foxi delivered five healthy babies just five days later! Foxi was an excellent mother to her babies and the little guys thrived and all have now been placed in wonderful homes. So now, it's time to find Foxi a home to call her very own. Foxi was vetted on August 2 (spay, microchip, rabies, etc.) and found to be heartworm free! YIPPEE! This little girl is very small weighing 9.7 pounds but she is still recovering from her babies and she needs to gain a little weight but she is always going to be a very small little girl … probably 10.5 to 11.5 pounds would be just right for her. We believe she is about 3 years old. Foxi is currently living with 6 other dogs in her home and she tolerates them. She does love the dogs that are her size, but bigger dogs intimidate her and she growls at them so we believe a dog her own size would be best for this girl. She is VERY playful and would really enjoy another dog who would play with her. Foxi appears to be house broken now but had several accidents when she first arrived (but she was very pregnant, so we just aren't sure exactly what was going on because now she's just doing great on her house manners). Foxi also has a doggie door in her foster home and loves it! She enjoys time outside snooting around the yard but loves being inside with her family. She seems to like everyone, women, men, children, babies. She is around a 2-year-old quite a bit and there has never been any issue. She was very protective of her puppies with the other dogs in her home and would growl and bark at them, but now that the puppies are all gone, that has stopped. :) Foxi sleeps in a crate at night and does very well. If you are interested in adoption, don't delay. We expect this little doll to go very quickly. Adoption fee for this cute pup is $150. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
