y, Auntie's had her share of uncertainties, but she's making strides every day. In the mornings, she's ready to start the day with a potty break followed by a fun food puzzle or wobbler breakfast. Then it's back outside for another potty break before the day's adventures begin. Aunties foster parents work from home, which means Auntie gets plenty of playtime in the yard when the weather's nice. She's a nature enthusiast, enjoying birdwatching, bug chasing, and lots of playtime with her canine companions. She isn't afraid to sit at the door with a toy in her mouth letting you know she is eager to get back outside and play. While she may bark and back away from new faces at first, Auntie's warming up slowly but surely. It is important to allow her time to warm up to new situations and people on her own time. Her foster family has been very committed to helping her learn that people can be trusted and she has made huge improvements. She will need a home that is committed to continuing this work. Auntie's a clown at heart, always ready for a game of fetch or a zoomie session around the yard. But she's also a young pup with plenty of energy to burn, so she'll need plenty of supervision and appropriate outlets for her exercise needs. With patience and guidance, Auntie will make a loyal and loving companion for someone willing to invest time in her. If you're ready to teach and learn alongside a smart and playful pup, Auntie Autumn could be the perfect match for you. Auntie Autumn currently lives with adults, small dogs and cats. She has not been introduced to children or large dogs. Since she can be unsure around new people, older and considerate children will be the best fit for her right now. Auntie Autumn is from Texas. They arrive in Minnesota on 3/9/2024 and will need to be picked up from the Ruff Start Rescue office in Princeton, MN between the hours of 5:30pm and 8:30pm. Please plan for their arrival accordingly as we cannot accomodate pickups outside of this time frame. Since they haven’t arrived yet, they are available exclusively through Ruff Start’s Foster to Adopt (FTA) Program. Click here to learn more about the FTA program. Once they get to Minnesota, they might require further veterinary care. Ruff Start’s veterinary suite is located in Princeton, MN, and, as the foster, you will be required to transport your dog to and from these vetting appointments. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
