rsquo;t make you fall head over heels in love, then his happy go lucky personality will. Lewis is a friendly lab-shepherd mix, born in November, 2016, who loves to play with people and dogs and is a real comic when entertaining himself with toys. Every day is a grand adventure, and Lewis would love nothing more than to share life with you. Lewis is house-trained and loves going for car rides, walking about the neighborhood, or just hanging out watching tv. He loves to play with his foster sister and is curious about indoor cats but generally very polite. Lewis is also crate-trained but prefers hanging out with you! This handsome boy likes to play ball in the backyard but if left to his own devises, he may help dig you a garden (you DID want one, didn’t you??!!). Lewis is a fast learner and responds well with a gentle, positive approach. He really needs a company of another young, friendly dog to help him learn to learn the rules of his new environment and that will be a condition of his adoption. He has been a delight in all aspects of socializing and training. When faced with new situations, Lewis is initially cautious, but his curiosity is a strong motivator for success. Lewis will thrive in a home with another friendly dog and with people who will continue to show him the beauty and wonder of this world and in return, he will be your very best friend in all of life’s adventures! Lewis is fostered in Helena, MT. Please review our adoption policies below and visit www.rezqdogs.org/adopt to download our adoption application. Adoption Policies: 1. All of the dogs (and cats) adopted from RezQ Dogs are spayed/neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, de-wormed, and microchipped prior to adoption. Many of the dogs also received additional veterinary care if needed. 2. RezQ Dogs houses its dogs in private foster homes and at our facility which is open by appointment only. We do require an approved application on file prior to scheduling a meet and greet with the dog. At that point, the adopters can take the dog home. 3. Adoption fees are as follows: - $125 for dogs over 1 year of age - $150 for dogs under 1 year of age - $75 for cats 4. While RezQ Dogs does allow out of state adoptions, we do limit the distance between the potential adopters and our location in Dodson, MT, to within a 12 hour drive. 5. Due to our limited staff and volunteers, RezQ Dogs is unable to transport dogs to their forever homes or meet adopters part way. RezQ Dogs does not ship dogs via airlines or ground transportation. We ask the adopters to meet the dogs in person prior to adoption rather than having someone pick up the dog for them in order to ensure the right fit for both humans and dogs. 6. Please fill out our adoption application at www.rezqdogs.org/adopt Make sure your application is complete and all of the phone numbers are provided as INCOMPLETE applications will not be considered. You will not be contacted if any information on the application is missing. We simply lack the manpower and time to track down the information we ask for in the first place. 7. RezQ Dogs makes every effort to reply to adoption inquiries and process applications within 1 week of receiving them.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
