ast year. His brother that came in with him was adopted but Eeyore is still with us. It is a sad situation because the person breeding these dogs is breeding a female that is a GSD and a Male that is a GSD/Lab mix and trying to pass them off as purebred dogs. A concerned citizen saw that these pups were pulled away from the parents. The parents were in one kennel that had cover and shelter and the two pups that were left were in a second kennel that had no cover, no dog houses, NO shelter from the elements. Their kennel was full of mud and the poor pups had not choice and they were having to stand and lay down in it! With the oncoming snow storms and the freezing temps the concerned citizen approached this person and asked them why they still had the two black pups and were they going to bring them inside to get them out of the elements from the freezing temps. They were just small babies then and they would freeze to death! The owner replied no, she wasn't bringing them in and she still had them because they were black and didn't look like pure GSDs so she couldn't sell them. She stated it was the first time her female had any black puppies. She sold the rest to buyers that were not aware they weren't pure GSDs. The concerned citizen contacted us and asked us if we would be willing to help and of course we said yes. She approached the owner who was willing to sign them over to us. We offered to help the owner in getting her adult dogs altered and she declined and said that she was going to continue to breed these dogs. Yes, taking these pups only gave this person an easy "out" but it also meant life or death for these poor babies and we were not going to let these babies die in the freezing temps. SO... .MOVING FORWARD.... A little about Eeyore! Eeyore is a goofy young man now. Although he is 3/4 German Shepherd he resembles more of the lab side of him. Eeyore is such a goofy little guy! He LOVES to smile at you. And no, it is not aggressive in any form of way! When he gets excited he likes to show it by smiling back at you! I am working on teaching him to smile on command! I have taught one other dog in the not to far past to smile on command so I am trying to do the same thing with this sweet boy! Eeyore loves to play with other dogs and is an active boy! He would love to have a home with a fenced in yard and possibly another doggie friend who he can romp and play with! He is great with other dogs, doesn't seem to mind the cats (although we will reconfirm before placed) and he has been around our gentle giants, aka the horses, and he doesn't seem to bother them. (we have never let him loose with them but he doesn't seem to mind them either) We are hoping that, like his brother, we can also find him the perfect family as well. Is that YOU?!? Contact us to schedule a time to come out and meet this beautiful fun loving pup! He could be yours or your child's next best friend!

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
