gram is: Wallflower: Shy yet charming canine searching for patient owner with relaxed lifestyle. Looking for gentle guidance to help me come out of my shell. Treat me sweet and kind and I’ll blossom. Peaches is about 1-year old & petite at only 28lbs. Our little baby girl was abused so she is nervous at first meeting new people so she will require a family that has experience with abused dogs. She warms up as soon as she realizes you want to be friends. With her foster family, she’s very sweet, gentle & her eyes look so happy & she is a major wiggle butt. Again, once she is comfortable she loves everyone & plays all day with my foster dogs. Early on she showed she had a funny quirk. I keep really large water bowls outside in the yard. We found her putting her whole HEAD in the water bowl with complete joy. Now we have a large pool (video below) & once we put it out & filled it up she hasn’t been out of it since. She stands in the pool, dunks her head & her whole body. It would be great if she were adopted in a home with a pool or at least a family who is willing to buy her the biggest kiddie that you can. I would like to add this new information to Peaches resume' -- Peaches just showed me that she has bug-catching skills – I really appreciate when I get a "bug-catcher" which give me one less thing to do! My poor Peaches had a really rough like in KY. There is a photo of her at the shelter below, you can see she was terrified. I see their photos in the shelter & it just breaks my heart to see what humans do to innocent, helpless animals. I decided to bring her to my rescue & I knew I could help her trust again. She was abused & sometimes still barks at men & it takes her a few minutes to realize no one will ever hurt her again. The shelter dropped her off at Vet’s office so they could get her spayed & up to date with all her shots. They noticed right away that she had a bloody stool which is often an indication of a really nasty disease Parvo. She was very, very sick for close to a week but day by day she started to recover. Sadly during those early weeks, she was contagious (she is NOT now) so I could not get her a transport to DE. She had to just sit in a dog kennel at the Vet's office for 5 weeks! How she didn’t go crazy because it had to feel like being in jail -- but this shows what a sound disposition she has. When she arrived at my home, she was beyond joyous when she realized she could go outside in my fenced in yard, run & play with her foster siblings & just be free! If she sounds like the kind of little girl that you would love to have in your life please read our adoption requirements & if you can meet or exceed that you can apply on this website. They are both on the left side of the website. ~ All LnF pups/dogs have been temperament tested & live in a foster home. ~ All pups and dogs have been housebroken (puppies are paper trained) & crate-trained and have had basic training ~ All pups/dogs have been Microchipped ~ Tested for Heartworm, Ehrlichia & Lyme ~ Each dog is on Heartworm Medication & Flea/Tick year-round while in our care ~ Up to date with Rabies ~ Distemper, Parvo & Leptospirosis vaccines ~ de-wormed. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
