88 1st to find out if I’m available to meet during the week. I lost my home when my family was evicted from their home which is sad, but I know there’s a wonderful low energy, calm type family out there looking for a relaxed guy like me. Yep, my favorite pastime is a good nap curled up on a nice rug close to my person. I don’t get on furniture at all, but am happy and comfortable with the floor. I act a good bit older than my age and am just a slow kind of guy! No puppy behaviors to worry about with me! I didn’t have all of my needs met previously, so my eyes are dry and I need eye drops twice a day to keep them feeling good. The drops are not expensive and I’m a good boy for them. I have a little sight loss and maybe some hearing loss too, so I don’t always see well enough to stay out of people’s way, I wouldn’t want to trip anyone who was a fall risk. I enjoy nice slow walks with my people, but at night it’s a little harder for me to see, so my foster family walks me close to the street lights which helps. I will likely not show my best side at Saturday adoptions as it is so busy, loud, and there are so many folks that I don’t know which is overwhelming for me. I may even snap at you as I did at a recent adoption day due to the stress. It just takes me a little extra time to get to know and trust new people. In my foster home, I know everyone there, so I trust them and we all enjoy each other’s company! I may growl at a new person coming into the home, but I haven’t tried to bite anyone except at adoptions. My foster parents say that I’m easy to love, just give me a little time to feel secure with you. My potty manners are very good in my foster home and I like toys and the other nice doggie that I currently live with, we even play together a little bit. I’m also quiet unless you put me in a crate, then I’ll bark, but I don’t really need a crate anyway. I’m sweet and you will love me! Much older teens, due to some vision and possible hearing loss, and because I snapped at a volunteer at adoptions. Energy level: 3-5. I'm current on vaccinations, micro-chipped, neutered and my adoption fee is $275.00.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
