boy that would love a home to call his own. He came to our rescue from a rural shelter after his owner did not reclaim him. Zeus will need someone that is familiar with the husky breed and must be a firm but kind handler. He is very lovable and playful and has a lot of energy to burn. Zeus would be a great hiking or running partner for someone that enjoys the outdoors. Zeus knows some basic commands and is a really smart boy. He would do well in a structured training program. He has some resource guarding issues with humans and food but has been eating in a large yard with other dogs without issue. Zeus will sometimes have issues with being handled by his collar and will get mouthy if leading him by his collar or taking a leash off. For this we suggest using a harness. House Manners: Zeus knows how to use a doggie door to go outside to use the bathroom and keeps a very clean kennel. Basic Training: Zeus knows several commands like sit, shake and down, and fetches almost. Other Dogs: Zeus was just moved to group housing and gets along well with males and females in the play yard. Cats: Zeus has not been cat tested however he more than likely has a prey drive and would not do well with cats or small animals. Kids: Zeus has not been around kids that we know of however he gets very excited around people and the rescue is working with him on jumping up on people so he may knock a small child down. Fencing: Zeus currently lives in a 6 ft secured fenced in yard with an add on hot wire. We believe he should be fine in a 6 ft fenced in secure yard. If you are interested in meeting Zeus please complete and submit an online application and a Pet Angels representative will respond within 24 to 48 hours. Applications do not obligate you to adopt the pet, however it provides the information we need in order to match the right pet with the right home. Northern Breeds: All of our Husky/Northern breeds require fence photos if you have a yard so we give tips on containment if needed. You can quicken your adoption process by sending us some yard pics, focusing on the fence lines and gates after you send your application. This breed typically does better with a yard but we may have some Northern breeds or mixes that would be suited for apartments etc. please just ask. Northern breeds are beautiful dogs but are also a challenge and demanding and can be very destructive and hard to contain when there needs are not met. Please learn a little more about the breed on our home page. Also we likely have other Huskies or Malamutes for adoption find out by visiting .petangelsrescue. Important PLEASE read if interested in adoption: For certain dogs at the rescue we will maintain an open mind on adoption approvals based on a case by case basis. For example, apartments, unfenced yards, and pets around young kids will be approved if the pet you are interested in is a good fit for that situation. Specific dogs will require a secured fenced in yard and in some situations the fence will have size and type requirements. Specific fencing requirements are due to safety, the breed, or if it is known the pet has an escape history. We are looking for pet parents that provide vet care such as routine vaccines for their current pets and heartworm prevention for dogs. Please understand we do cross check vet references and landowners/landlord policies and cannot process applications with incomplete or incorrect information. We ask that you take your newly adopted dog for a vet exam within the first 30 days. This is important in order to maintain ongoing heartworm prevention. It is also recommended the pet have a fecal exam administered as some pets may need additional de-wormers after leaving our care. Please submit a Pre-Adoption Application (questionnaire) by clicking our logo button below (if visible) or by visiting .petangelsrescue if interested in meeting/adopting one of our pets. Complete and submit only one application even if you are interested in meeting more than one pet. The questionnaire simply helps provide us with key information about your families dynamics when matching the pet with your home and utilizing information we have learned about that dog or cat. All of our pets at Pet Angels Rescue are featured on our independent website and can be accessed from our PETS FOR ADOPTION PAGE. Please look at all of our adoptable pets as there may be more then one at our rescue you would like to meet. If you have any questions please visit our website and look at, Before You Adopt & Adoption Process & App. pages for answers to most of your questions. Since we have limited staffing we ask that you submit any questions via email at contactpetangelsrescue Ok State Ag License #STL00034 The adoption fee is $150. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
