on July 29th, 2019 but Husky Education and Rescue Team swooped in and got me out just a few days later. I was taken to a vet who gave me my vaccinations, a microchip and tested me for heartworm (I’m negative!!) I like all people, all dogs and especially all treats! I get thirsty A LOT so please remember to give me some water as often as possible. I don’t mind riding in the car but it’s pretty exciting seeing all the cool places that we pass and I want to share my excitement by sitting as close to you as possible. I have learned not to jump up on people but if I forget in my excitement please remind me… I want to be a good, polite husky for my new family. I don’t always understand the words “sit” and “crate” but I know to sit nicely for something I want and that the crate is the place I get food and sleep. Sometimes I respond better to nicknames like Meg, Mega, etc than Omega. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Omega would make a great first husky for someone wanting a gradual introduction into the wonderful world of Huskies. She gets along well with other dogs and is very adaptive to the energy levels of those around her. If the others are playing she wants to play, if they're sleeping then she's sleeping too. She's somewhat unusual in that she's a fairly quiet husky - she does get excited when you get home or when it's food time but won't bark the house down. In fact most of her vocalizations are kind of low muttering sounds when playing. She whines just a little bit when she's separated from you but quickly settles down... Unless there's another dog getting a lot of attention then she whines a lot about being left out. She absolutely loves snuggles and hates when you stop petting her. If you do stop before she's ready she'll shove her head under your arm to encourage you to start again! She would cheerfully climb up on the couch with me if I let her but she's already learned not to just jump up on furniture. She's very smart if a bit clumsy. She has already learned to sit politely for a treat, not jump up on people, not beg for people food (much) and to sleep in her crate quietly. Omega is 5 years old, 75 pounds of smart, sweet, housebroken, mostly crate trained and dog friendly husky just waiting for the perfect forever home. 6400 Ivy Ln, Greenbelt, MD 20770 ~~Husky Education And Rescue Team is a foster based rescue. Our dogs are in our foster homes all up and down the east coast. We do not have a facility in which you can visit. We find this a huge benefit because we learn our dogs and are able to educate our adopters on what it’s like to have them live in your home. Part of our process, once pre-approved, is to speak with the foster for the dog you’re interested in. If you’re still interested in adopting from our rescue the first step is to complete our adoption application online at .huskyrescueteam/apply If you have additional questions please email infohuskyrescueteam

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
