Treeing Walker Coonhound Dogs For Adoption in Ontario, , USA

Posted Breed: Treeing Walker Coonhound / Coonhound (short coat). Meet pretty Sophie! I’m a very happy, affectionate, and playful two-year-old Treeing Walker Coonhound. I love to give kisses and

hugs! I’m pretty skinny but healthy, and I should fatten up in no time. I do have a coonie howl, but I only raise my voice to tell you I want to come inside. A gate helps keep me off the kitchen counters, and I’m working on laying down while people eat instead of giving kisses and sneaking food. Cuddling on the couch with my foster dad is the best thing ever! But I’m also pretty content laying on my floor pillow next to my foster mom. She says I’m super cute and sweet. I like to eat in my crate but I don't need to sleep in there anymore. I'm house trained now and get to stay with my foster siblings when my foster people have to go out. I really love to play with my foster siblings, both human and canine, so I hope my new forever home has other dogs and kids I can run and play with so I don’t get bored. I’m not dominant or aggressive, but you might have to watch me sometimes around the younger kids. I just can’t help it. Their cheeks are so kissable! Please, won’t you give me a chance? I promise to be your best friend and love you forever! Please Note: We are all volunteers and busy taking care of our foster dogs so please take the time to fill out our on-line adoption application if you are interested in more information about any of the hounds that we have for adoption. Filling out our application does not obligate you to adopt in any way. It does, however, help us to determine if the dog that your interested in would be a good match for your family and lifestyle. All of our dogs are fully vetted. They have been vaccinated, altered, microchipped and heartworm tested and on prevention. VISIT COONHOUND COMPANIONS WEBSITE TO SEE WHY ADOPTING A COONHOUND CAN BE A WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE! www.coonhoundcompanions.com ADOPTION FEE: $400.00 LOCATION: Sophie is currently in foster care in Michigan. With the help of volunteers, transportation to her forever home can possibly be arranged. Don't let distance deter you! If you would like to give this beautiful girl a forever home please fill out our on line adoption application at www.coonhoundrescue.ca/adoption-application

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
