home. Radio has had zero interest. Not even one person interested in meeting her. We are so sad for this sweet girl. She wants nothing more than a family to spend the rest of her days with, she dreams of 2024 filled with going to a park, going to the beach, experiencing snow and romping in the woods. Hiking with her family, spending time with her family inside on the couch, running in a field of flowers, seeing the Grand Canyon, taking a bubble bath and family vacations. She wants to celebrate her next birthday with her own family. Let’s show her the life she should have of comfort and companionship; we hope someone will adopt her and show her the life most dogs have and that she will have a loving hand stroke her face and tell her that she’s loved and that she matters forever. She is l ooking for a new home for her heart!! Let me introduce you to Radio, a cutesy mixed breed, Whippet/Terrier, girl picked up as a stray and brought to the Lancaster Animal Shelter. Radio is approx. 10 months old and weighs 20 pounds. Does she ever have lots of personality! She is a tail-wagging, high energy puppy with a real zest for life! She is playful, knows the sit command and will do so for treats. In fact, that was her primary focus during her photo session. She is friendly, affectionate, tries to climb on your lap and give kisses. She likes to be petted and loved on. There is not a bit of fear or nervousness about her. She has adjusted well to her foster home. However, that does not mean she wouldn't dearly love to find her own special person or family that will give her all the TLC she deserves. Radio will need daily exercise, playtime and enrichment. She is so treat-motivated (crazy about carrots) that she is easy to train. There is no doubt that this youngster will become a devoted and loyal family member. She will need her new people to be patient with her as she gets through the sometimes-challenging puppy stage. She wants to live inside and have a comfy cozy puppy bed and be an important part of the family circle. Please help Radio to that end by networking her. She is potty trained, crate trained and doing great walking on a leash. Radio gets along great with the other dogs in her foster home and would love a furry friend in her future. She loves people, other dogs, and would be fine with older kids and cats. She loves to play, is excellent at fetch, and is a little toy hoarder. Radio is spayed, UTD on vaccinations, micro chipped and heartworm negative. Radio is accepting applications for her person. Apply for her today at: legacyhumanesociety/adoptfoster/adoption-application/ We do not have a facility to house the dogs in our program. They are all kept in foster homes until they are adopted. Therefore, if you are interested in adopting from LHS, please complete an online application at legacyhumanesociety/adoptfoster/adoption-application/ and we will contact you asap about the status of your application.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
