Posted Breed: Unknown breed. Sarge is 5 years old and is really a good boy. He is fixed and current on all vaccines and rabies. He gets along wonderfully with cats. My cats love him and are constantly rubbing all over his face. He loves all toys and all types of water. We had to get him a life vest for the pool because he doesn’t want to get out. He was hit by a car very young and has a weak back leg but that does not stop him from playing catch as many times as you will through the ball. He cannot be in a home with other dogs as has been displaying territorial issues with other dogs. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
