Posted Breed: Hound / Mixed. Adoptable in: MA, RI, NH, CT, and VT Good with dogs: Yes Good with cats: Yes Good with kids: Yes Crate trained: Mostly House trained: Yes Gazelle is a perfect little pup. She loves playing with other dogs and seems to read cues well. She loves putting her hound nose to use on walks by sniffing all the things. She whines a bit when she wants attention so another doggy friend to play with or someone willing to take her on a couple of short sniffy walks would make her so happy. She is house trained and mostly crate trained, but she will need to be guided into her crate and will bark for a few minutes before she settles in. She has been around a cat and was not interested other than a quick sniff. Gazelle is a really quick learner and is working on leash walking currently. She can’t wait to find her new family to give her belly rubs and ear scratches all day long. Please Note: All dogs currently available for adoption are posted on our website. If you cannot find a particular dog on our website, he/she may be on a temporary foster hold. All dogs are otherwise posted until they are officially adopted. Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
