Description
Posted Breed: Yorkshire Terrier Yorkie (long coat). RESCUE help needed for Hopper! He is presently at the Perth Amboy Animal Shelter after presumably being hit by a car. Vet evaluation showed bruising but no broken bones. He is on pain meds, can stand now and walk a bit but with difficulty. He is estimated at about 6 years old and would really like to heal in comfort instead of a shelter cage. He remains on stray hold for a few more days... please contact the shelter directly if you are a 501c3 rescue that can help. The shelter is full and short staffed so please be patient when contacting them. #helpforhopper#HopeForHopper All Perth Amboy Animal Shelter residents will be fully vaccinated, spayed/neutered and microchipped prior to adoption. You must be 23 or older to adopt from the shelter, complete an Adoption Application and pay the associated adoption fee. The application must be approved by the shelter staff and all adoptions are finalized based on the best interests of our animals. Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
