Posted Breed: Shepherd / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: 250. Hello there ! I'm Caramel Macciato, a 4-year-old Shepherd mix with a zest for life and a love for play! I'm full grown at about 55 pounds, so I am the perfect mid-sized pup! People say I have striking good looks and boundless energy. I love playing at the park or in the yard, but I'm just as content to lounge at home, keeping a watchful eye on the neighborhood. I love my humans and spending time with them, I love affection and I am always eager for a gentle pat or a cozy snuggle. I am friendly around dogs (especially smaller dogs, or dogs my size, I get a little nervous around the big guys). I am friendly with people that I know, but I can feel a bit shy around unfamiliar men and may need a little extra time to feel at ease. A first meeting at a park does wonders, creating a relaxed environment helps me make new friends. I am looking for a family that will help me work on my insecurities and love me unconditionally. Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
