If you see a pet here, they are still available for adoption and you should apply through our adoption application on our website at .arf-il/adopt/application/ Roxy is a 4.5 month old female Australian Cattle Dog mix who weighs in at approximately 20 pounds. Her adoption fee is $450. If you are still interested, please read more below. Roxy is a playful puppy who loves children, cuddling and being near her people. She plays well with both large and small dogs in her foster home. She is a smart girl and is quickly learning her basic commands, potty training, and walking on a leash. She sleeps through the night in her crate. She would be an ideal family companion! This pup is micro-chipped, up to date on all vaccinations, and spayed. The new family will be required to complete a basic obedience course of their choosing. Please note ARF does not approve applications for any puppy under 6 months of age to families that live outside of Illinois and/or beyond 100 miles of Wheaton or Glen Ellyn, IL. A meeting will not be scheduled until you have an approved application, so if you're interested in adopting this pup fill out an online application today! .arf-il/adopt/application/ Once your application has been approved, an ARF volunteer will contact you to arrange a meeting. ARF is an all volunteer organization. Due to a high volume of applications, we are often unable to respond to questions until your application has been approved. Thank you for your patience! Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
