Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier (medium coat). Milo is a big nervous boy. He has calmed a bit, and began socializing with staff, but is still hesitant about handling and getting leashed. Milo is still decompressing, and will need a family who will understand that he will need time to completely relax and feel safe in his new home. OTHER PETS: Milo is large and intense with other dogs; while he is not aggressive, he is rude, and would not do well with smaller dogs. A similarly-sized, confident, well-mannered dog might be a match - as with all our dogs we require a pre-adoption meet to ensure a good fit. [Case-By-Case (No Little Dogs) (Must Meet First)] OWNER EXPERIENCE: Milo would be best served by a very experienced owner. He is a worried boy who would benefit greatly from structure, routine, and positive reinforcement training. Milo is also a large dog who has the great strength often associated with larger breeds; his owner should have the physical strength necessary to handle him. [Very Experienced] KIDS: Milo is a large, strong, dog who exhibited nervousness with handling; older teens who can respect his boundaries and follow the structure/routine set forth by the owner would be good companions for him. [15+ (Must Meet First)] ACTIVITY LEVEL: One of Milo's favorite things to do is to explore with his nose. He would enjoy the opportunity to sniff new things while getting his exercise. As he decompresses and gets used to his routine, Milo might turn out to have a higher activity level than he is exhibiting now - with training and support he could be a good activity companion. [Good Walking Buddy] LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Positive reinforcement training will help Milo build a trusting relationship with his new owner as well as improving his own self confidence. Patience is going to play a big role in Milo's training, this is a dog who will make steady slow progress and will need support the entire time.
