1/23/17: Cora...there is not a bad thing I can say about this lady. We have had her about 2 weeks and she has been an absolute delight. She listens great, follows directions, has great manners and loves to snuggle next to you, not on top of you. What more can you ask in a pet? Cora gets very attached to you and just wants to be where you are, nothing more and nothing less. She has some spunk in her when she wants to play and loves to run through the snow. Cora loves to go for walks or a drive. She loves kids and is very gentle. I cannot believe Cora is still in our rescue; she is one that deserves a great home and a forever family. You will not be disappointed.
12/14/16 Volunteer Feedback: I have so enjoyed my time volunteering at our shelter and spending time with Miss Cora. She is such a love bug! Her favorite things include lounging on the couch, taking long naps, giving sweet kisses, chewing on peanut butter bones, and more napping. As an older gal, Cora is pretty laid back. She gets a little playful and likes to follow you around but is more than happy to curl up on the couch and snooze next to you. Cora has very nice manners, she takes treats nicely, goes into her kennel well, and knows basic commands. She's very treat motivated so it would be easy to teach her whatever you would like. I'm sure she'd love to spend the extra time with you. We went to get coffee and run some errands the other morning and she rode very nicely in the car and looked out the window for a little while but soon curled up for a snooze. Even though she does need to be an only dog, that just means she doesn't want to share you with anyone else.
It's hard to see this gal spending her time in a shelter. Sweet, Sweet Cora would love a gift of a family of her own for the holidays. Consider giving her the loving home she so deserves.
9/22/16: Hi there! I'm a bit busy laying on the couch and getting cuddles right now, so I'm having my foster mama type this out for me. I tried to help earlier but slobbered on the screen a little and, frankly, my paws are too big for those keys, so this makes more sense.
I've been living here now for the last few weeks and so far it's been amazing. I've pretty much trained the family to let me out when I whine, but to make it easy on them, I usually only ask to go out in the morning and before bed with a little break midday. Foster Mama and the baby go with me on walks around the neighborhood every day and I love it! There are so many things to smell that I sometimes get a little carried away in the beginning, but once I'm familiar with an area, I love to just walk with them and make sure they're safe. I'm also getting pretty good at sitting when it's time to go out. It's tricky for my Foster Mom to put on the lead when she's holding a baby, so I sit to make it easier for her.
Since I've gotten here, the family has also taught me a few new tricks. I already knew how to sit, but I'm learning now to "kennel up" and "wait" and even to "spin around!" I already kinda know that last one though...I love to spin and chase my tail when I'm all wound up, but if I do it when they say to I get a treat and I love treats!
Most of my days are spent curled up on the couch or floor next to someone. Since the baby and my foster mom are home all day, I pretty much always have company and that's just the way I like it. Sometimes I'll have to go to my kennel for a little bit if everyone goes out and that usually makes me whine a little, but eventually I just get bored and go to sleep. And the best part is when they get home, I always get extra cuddles! Also, just so you know, I love sleeping in that big comfy bed they have here (although Foster Mom says I'm a bed hog). If I take up too much space, though, they make me sleep on the floor which is alright too as long as I have fluffy things to curl up on! I especially like all the pillows on the floor of the baby's room. I don't even mind that he cries in the middle of the night. It just means I get some more company and middle of the night pets, usually.
What else can I say? I'm pretty sure that my foster family would be just fine keeping me as long as I need a home, but I'd really love to have a home of my own for always.
9/1/16 Volunteer Feedback: I am baffled that Cora is even at the shelter still. She is the sweetest little lady you could ask for! She is so excited to see her people, eager to please, listens to commands, walks well, takes treats very gently… she is literally just about the perfect dog. If I didn’t have cats and two dogs of my own, she would be in my house! I am so jealous of whoever gets to call this girl theirs forever. She will touch your heart the way she has touched mine. Some people say it’s impossible to fall in love at first sight, well it’s definitely possible with Miss Cora. I love this little lady with my whole heart and every time I get a chance to interact with her, I only grow more and more fond of her.
7/19/16: We have had Cora with us for a few weeks. She is a very sweet girl! She loves kisses and hugs and belly rubs. Cora is content to sleep or lay down next to me, and would do that most of the day if I would sit still. She rides very nicely in a car; loves to go on walks and is good on a leash. (She gets very excited when I pick up her leash).
I took her camping a few times and she has met many new people. She was good with all of it.
Cora is a champ with bathing. She sleeps by herself in her special green chair but you wouldn't need to ask twice, for her to jump into your bed to sleep with you (she is happy to sleep in and snuggle )
We are working on kenneling and she is making strides (she kennels for short periods with no barking). Cora hasn't been destructive when left alone and out of a kennel. She cries for me for a few minutes but then settles into her chair and sleeps.
She gets pretty spunky chasing her tail when she is happy(my kids love this )
Cora really just wants and needs a person of her very own. She has so much love to give.
6/27/16 Volunteer Feedback: Cora is a beautiful girl and I had so much fun volunteering with her this week. She walks very nicely with an easy walk harness. She doesn't pull and likes to saunter along, so she would be easy to walk and a good fit for anyone. She enjoyed stopping to smell the flowers while we were walking. Cora took treats very nicely, she had a clean kennel, and has very nice manners. She is a nice medium size and has short hair so would be a low maintenance dog. Although her previous foster had some separation anxiety issues, she didn't display any anxiety during the time I spent with her. That could certainly be different in a home but she was very calm during our time together. Please consider giving Cora a loving home she so deserves.
5/23/16: Cora is a fantastic dog! Cora has some anxiety issues being left home alone but otherwise perfect dog! She would be an ideal dog for someone who works from home or is home a lot! She's very easy going, calm dog. Great size! Doesn't shed much! Perfect couch buddy! Bomb proof with kids! She had a hurt foot and she still loved all the attention she got from my kids aged 1, 3, and 7. They had bumped her foot quite a few times trying to give her treats and she just moved back. She was a good guard dog from squirrels, bunnies, anything moving in our yard; she would watch them until they were gone or no longer deemed a "threat". She is very willing to play, but won't bug you about it. Cora is perfectly content following you around or laying down next to you. She stands nicely clipping her nails, takes treats nicely out of hand, loves to be brushed/pet, and very easy to give a bath, and fully potty trained. Give her a chance!
4/23/16: So Cora is a great dog. She needs a few days to adjust to a new home, but after she adjusts she's a great dog! After she had adjusted: no accidents, no bad house behavior. She does good with our kids. Aged almost 1yr, 2 1/2, and 8. She loves to play. She loves walks and can be a puller for the first part, but once she calms down she does perfect and matches your pace. Cora is very friendly towards new people. She does need to be worked with on separation issues but even when you leave she does calm down after a bit now so it wouldn't be too hard. She needs work on kenneling, but the past few days I have had her, I haven't needed to kennel her. She is a gorgeous, calmer dog, but will play if you want her too! Cora's been very good!
