a question? Please read our Frequently Asked Questions and Adoption Processed Explained documentation. Statistics Name: Drei Breed: Pit Bull Terrier Mix Age: 6 Months (Approx. DOB: 2/20/18) Size: Currently 28 lbs. - Once fully grown should be Medium range: 26-60 lbs Adoption Donation: $180 (applicable sales tax included). Adoption fees may be paid by cash or check. Other: Spayed Female, Vaccinations current, Microchip * Drei recently had her back leg amputated due to a very bad break in her leg; any adoptive home for Drei should have minimal stairs for her to go in and out (bi-level stairs, for example, are probably not going to work for her). Drei is such a cutie, six months old and only weighing in at 28 lbs! Foster Home Feedback 9/18/18 Volunteer Feedback: I have been watching Drei for a few days now while her foster is on vacation. I can’t believe that someone hasn’t snatched her up! She settled beautifully into our house. She sleeps all night in her kennel until I let her out in the morning. Loves to snuggle with the humans in the house and play with our pups. She loved playing with my little granddaughters. Drei sits for treats! She’s pretty close to being 100% potty trained. I still take her out at frequent intervals. Drei’s still learning how to maneuver in the world as a tripod but is doing so well. Whoever decides to adopt this gorgeous girl is guaranteed to have just the best fur baby ever! 9/6/18: Drei is so cute, I've had people see her and say they don't even notice she is a tripod! She is making amazing progress in her recovery from having a leg amputated after being hit by a car, and hence becoming a part of 4 Luv of Dog Rescue. Because of the recent leg amputation, any home she moves too should have minimal stairs for her to go in and out (bi-level stairs, for example, are not going to work for her). Drei is very snuggly and cuddly and insists on showing how grateful she is with kisses and hugs. I have 3 other dogs, and she doesn't mind them at all, but is a little guarded sometimes on seeing new dogs and may bark and be a bit afraid. Drei is very quiet and calm in her crate which is a big plus - so crating her during workdays or if you need to at night, are not an issue. As far as potty training, she is doing very well, but must be treated like a puppy still and be let out after waking up, eating, naps, etc. -- Drei can go all night through with no issues, without having to go outside. Thus far, I've been coming home at noon for let-outs and 100% of the time her crate has been clean workdays (and nights). Please consider giving this little beauty a do-over in her short life thus far and allow her to heal and grow as your snuggly companion. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
