FOSTER HOME NEEDED Statistics Name: Virginia Breed: Pit Bull Terrier Mix Age: 3.5 Years Size: Large 61 Lbs. ~Large range: 61-100 lbs. Adoption Donation: $180 (applicable sales tax included). Adoption fees may be paid with cash or check. Other: Spayed Female, Vaccinations current, Microchip, No cats or small animals of any kind Virginia is good with kids and dogs (But NO cats/small animals for her!) Foster Home Feedback * NO Cats/Small animals of any kind 4/8/17 Volunteer Feedback: Meet Virgina! This girl has my heart. I have so enjoyed her sweet and silly personality. Another volunteer and I gave her a medicated bath to help with her skin issues. While some dogs are very difficult to bathe, Virgina was an absolute dream and her skin is on the mend. It was fun to watch her wiggle and run around a bit after her bath because she is generally so quiet. She is so easy to walk, isn't too playful and is quite laid back and happy to hang with you on the couch. Virgina always keeps her kennel clean, rides very nicely in a car and is great with kids and dogs her size. She always greets you with a wagging tail and isn't jumpy like many of the shelter dogs so she is a volunteer favorite to leash up. Please consider giving Virgina the wonderful home she so deserves. 3/27/17 Volunteer Feedback: Sweet Virginia was surrendered to the rescue needing some veterinary care for her skin and for the past few weeks I've been giving her special "spa" treatments with medicated shampoo. She is looking so much better and is now ready to be adopted! I can't say enough about what a very well behaved girl she is. If I already didn't have two fosters, I'd love to add her to my pack! Virginia is very docile and quiet and very stoic. She accepts whatever you ask of her or want to do to her. The last time she was over, I ended up keeping her for a good portion of the day as I just couldn't bear to bring her back to the shelter (where she patiently waits for a foster or forever home). To some, she may not be the prettiest dog, but she is certainly distinctive with one brown and one blue eye and to me, her beautiful nature does indeed make her a beautiful dog. Virginia walks nicely on leash, rides quietly and practically motionless in a vehicle and no reactions or barking while she is with me at home or at the shelter when I am there doing a shift. Please consider adding this wonderful girl to your family! To view additional dogs available for adoption, please see our website: www.4luvofdog.org

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
