izen noticed what was going on and inquired about her personal and medical history, and the man selling her kept changing his story. She knew this was a bad situation, so she purchased her, negotiating him down to $100 from the $250 he was asking for. She took Winne straight to the vet for a microchip scan. She was not chipped or spayed, so she is very fortunate she ended up in the hands of a caring person with good intentions. Worthy Dog was more than happy to take her in.
This gorgeous girl has been in her foster home for three weeks and lives with her foster parents, Lou and Scotty, and their two GSDs, Knox and Dozer. Winnie was initially very timid around the dogs and even unsure of exploring their backyard, but she just needed a few days to decompress and get her bearings. Lou made a gradual introduction to her pack over a week, getting Winnie comfortable with one pup at a time. Knox was easy, and they were instant friends and playmates. She took a little more time with her senior Dozer, who can be a little selective with his doggie friends, but Winnie successfully charmed him, and he'll even play with her sometimes.
Once Winnie trusted her environment, she started opening up and was the typical Pittie snuggle bug with Lou, Scotty, and the pups. She began doing zoomies in the yard and will play fetch as long as you throw for her. She is housetrained, crate-trained, sleeps soundly through the night, and has done so well that Lou has given her free-roam privileges at night to sleep with the rest of the pack. Winnie has a moderate energy level but loves to play.
She knows several commands - sit, place, stay - and has good recall. She is very food-motivated and will “sing” for her supper, making little screechy noises that make Lou laugh. Lou affectionately calls her “Chunky Monkey” because she’s a little tank, seemingly as wide as she is tall, and frequently sits like a monkey on the couch with her little belly rolls showing. Her coloring is beautiful, and her coat is silky soft. She loves scratches, belly rubs, and giving kisses, and has a very sweet disposition.
Winnie is great in the car but is still building confidence to venture outside the home. She was very nervous about leaving the fenced yard, so Lou started doing short walks to the mailbox to get her more comfortable. Lou plans to start taking Winnie on outings to the pet and hardware store to get her more exposure to new environments — it’s a process.
We feel the best home for Winnie would be in a quiet neighborhood, and she would benefit from a confident, established dog in her new home. She’s a lovely pup with lots of personality who will make you laugh and be an incredible companion.
