hipped.
This gorgeous stud is a very special dog: Rodeo Singer. Rodeo is about 1 year old, and a medium sized dog at 28lbs. Rodeo looks to be part Beagle and part Pointer. This handsome fella has above-average intelligence. He is house trained, crate trained and leash trained. He is outgoing and friendly, but his beagle nose does lead him to want to "counter surf". With some training and a treat in hand, he will catch on quickly that this is not an accepted sport. We recommend obedience training for all our dogs, and Rodeo is no exception. He may be very smart and easy to train, but obedience training is also a great way for socializing with other dogs, and a fun way to bond with each other. Rodeo is good with other dogs and kids, but he hasn't had a chance yet to meet any cats. A home with a fenced yard would be great for him, as he likes to run and likes to follow with his nose to the ground. He can climb or jump over a 3-foot rock wall, so he will need a tall fence with supervision. We think Rodeo would make an excellent hiking or walking partner. He is a sweet guy that just wants love and affection. He loves cuddling and will crawl on his foster mom's lap and give her wet, sloppy kisses. Toys are a hot commodity with him - he loves to play, but he destroys squeaky toys. He'd love to show you one of his tricks: He will walk on his hind legs when his foster mom holds his food bowl up. He also knows how to do the two-step - check out his videos! Rodeo earned his last name "Singer" because he sometimes likes to bark and howl in a very fun (but not obnoxious) way. This handsome boy is a total joy to be with and will make someone very happy. If you would like to give Rodeo a loving home, please fill out an application and get ready for lots of his wet, sloppy kisses!
Medical Note: This dog was treated for heartworm disease with multiple staged melarsomine injections and has tested negative for microfilaria. He is cleared to resume normal activity and ready to be adopted! SOS exclusively supports the American Heartworm Association protocol for heartworm disease. Before coming to SOSARL, heartworm treatment was attempted on this dog following another protocol, but was unsuccessful. Following AHS protocol takes more time and costs more money, but this dog is a living testament as to why that protocol is the standard. Untreated heartworm disease can cause lasting damage to the heart, lungs and arteries, and can affect the dog’s health and quality of life even after the parasites are gone, possibly presenting as medical complications and/or new conditions in the future. This dog has shown no clinical symptoms of heartworm disease before or during treatment. Please check with your vet if you should have any questions or concerns about this condition, and discuss any concerns you may have with your SOS Adoption Counselor. A good resource for more information on heartworm disease is: https://www.heartwormsociety.org/pet-owner-resources/heartworm-basics.
SPONSORSHIP: This dog's heartworm treatment expenses have been made possible by a collaborative effort between the Humane Society of Independence County, Arkansas, and the Martha Decker Memorial Fund for Animals' special Heart Help project. Proper treatment for heartworm disease can take hundreds of dollars and several months - two precious resources that can be very hard to find for homeless dogs. **Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.
