n meet some of our dogs, please see HERE Age: 20 months (as of 2/2/24) Weight: 34.4 lbs. (as of 2/21/24) Location: RI Lola is available for adoption to Massachusetts residents, as well as those in the other New England states. This dog has been spayed/neutered, is up to date on shots, on heartworm preventative and is microchipped. Meet Lola! We think she's a Boston Terrier/Corgi mix. She’s a fun-loving and outgoing girl, and gets along with everyone she meets - adults, kids, other dogs. Will tend to bark to say hello but it’s all out of excitement. Lola is fully housetrained and does well left loose alone in the house. She walks well on a leash and loves to snuggle up close. Her favorite position for R&R or a quick snooze is best found right on top of your lap. Scratches behind the ears and on top of her head are her favorite and she’s ready to give all the kisses! She does get anxious during car rides, so an adopter who’s patient and ready to give her the time and attention she deserves is going to be the best fit. She’ll be your little shadow and especially loves to play fetch and chew on her squeaky toys. Lola and her brother McDreamy were surrendered by their owners who could no longer care for them, and now we're looking for their new forever homes. Fill out an application today! Medical Note: Lola had cherry eye repair surgery on January 9, 2024. Cherry eye in dogs is a condition where the gland located in the third eyelid protrudes or swells, becoming visible as a red or pink mass in the corner of the eye. She is still dealing with some residual post-surgery symptoms and requires oral and topical medicine daily. However, she continues to have the sweetest disposition and is not letting anything get her down. An adoption donation is required for each adoption; please see HERE for more information about this. To apply for this dog, fill out an adoption application on our website: .sosarl/aa/ * *Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
