can’t begin to say enough good things about this great dog! Bruno is a 1 year-old Boxer mix who was found running on a busy highway with another dog. Fortunately, both dogs ended up safely at the local shelter but owners were never found. Bruno’s pal was adopted but Bruno was left behind because he was heartworm positive. The shelter thought so much of this fine dog that they had him treated for heartworms at the end of December. From there, he made his way to Canine Lifeline so he would have time to find the perfect new home. From the moment we met this dog, we knew he was very special. He is so affectionate and attentive to his human friends and makes new friends very easily. He has the typical charming full-body Boxer wag when he meets people—you can’t help but smile and give him a big hug! Bruno does well with other dogs but would choose the company of people over dogs we think. He loves to snuggle, gives lots of kisses, and thinks he's a lap dog. He has excellent crate manners and may be housetrained too although we can’t guarantee it. Bruno likes to ride in the car and settles down nicely. He knows the sit command and takes treats very gently. Bruno met kitties at the vet clinic and was interested in them so likely to chase if they run. He is going to make an outstanding companion for one very lucky person or family! Bruno weighs about 55 pounds and his adoption fee is $200. He’s neutered, current on monthly heartworm negative, up to date on vaccinations, wormed, on flea preventative, and microchipped. All Canine Lifeline adoptions come with a two-week trial period to make sure it’s a great match before the adoption is finalized. Please email info@caninelifeline.org if you’re interested in Bruno. An approved application is required before we schedule meets with any of our dogs. All of our dogs come to us from county dog pounds so we have no history on them. We also have no foster homes with young children so aren’t comfortable placing any of them in a home with children less than 4-5 years of age. We try to respond to inquiries within 24-48 hours so if you haven’t heard from us within that time frame, please check your junkmail or spam folder to make sure our reply hasn’t landed in there. Please visit our website at www.caninelifeline.org to see more photos of Bruno and to submit an online application. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
