s, on heartworm preventative and is microchipped. Honey Buns is a natural at fetch! And will bring the ball back AND leave it for you without even asking her to so you can throw it again - about 90% of the time. She has an exuberance for life that radiates in everything she does. We're thinking this little love is a sweet blend of Hound and Boxer born sometime around the end of November 2018. She's extremely smart, learns quickly and LOVES to learn! She was quite the "problem child" as a very young puppy, but with strong leadership from both humans and other dogs she's come amazingly far! She's smart and active, and will make a great companion for a person or family that'll make her a priority to ensure she gets the continued exercise, leadership and structure she needs to thrive. Just by the nature of demands and priorities, a household with children is not the best fit, even though she is good with children. She's house trained and crate trained (though she prefers to be loose), and is learning not to pull on leash. She's excited about the prospect of going to puppy training classes with her new human(s) - she already knows "sit" and "down" and almost has "stay" mastered! She'd love a fenced yard to play in, but daily leash walks for exercise, business and adventure will work, too. She finds kitties interesting, but with her prey drive she would either need a very slow introduction to a resident dog-savvy cat or no cats in the home at all. Honey Buns is a delightful cuddler and whoever gets her should enjoy this to get the most out of the love of this sweet girl! She LOVES car rides and baths and chasing (and stalking) a soccer ball around the yard! There's so much more we could tell you about this little love! Fill out an application today and Honey's people will get right back to you - and tell you all about her! Honey Bun's Story: She was rescued from a church in a rural area in Mississippi. A young adult went out and got all the puppies at only 4-weeks old and left the momma dog who was feral behind. Our rescue partners knew it was too soon to have the puppies pulled from their momma so one of their employees went out and trapped her and convinced the girl that took the puppies to surrender them to the shelter so that mother Ramona could finish weening them. Honey was a bit sassy as a sister with her siblings - with older and larger dogs she has learned her place. Adoption Fee: $585 To apply for this dog, fill out an adoption application on our website: .sosarl/aa/ **Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
