! Although my foster mom thinks I understand her better when she speaks in French. No matter what language you are speaking, I will do my very best to do exactly what it is you are asking of me. I will do absolutely anything for snuggles and I am ready to give back tons of loving in return! I love my people very much and just want to be around you all the time. If you’ll let me, I’ll even do my best impression of a lap dog! You’d be surprised how much of me I can fit in to your lap! I’m an expert lap snuggler! I also try and talk to you when you don’t seem to understand what I need. Oh, and I can make a sound just like a fire engine if I hear something in just the right tone!I will always greet you with a thumping tail wag and a smile, and when I get to know you better, I’ll use my voice just to show you how happy I am to see you! I love all sorts of people, small, tall, male or female. I want to be everyone’s buddy. While my size may seem a bit much for some (I am a big boy after all!), once they see how awesome I am, they fall in love instantly! That has to be my French charm and my joie de vivre! As for other furry friends, I do so want to be friends with everyone, but sometimes other dogs see how big I am and get all up in my grill. I don’t like that at all! I do what I can to warn them, but sometimes, I have to get a little gruffer than I like to get my point across. I feel really bad about it afterwards, but what’s a guy to do? I really appreciate it when foster mom helps me avoid those situations by giving me lots of space between me and any other dogs we meet on walks. She says that it’s probably best to avoid dog parks or any off leash areas all together, at least for now. I like my little foster brother a lot, and we like hanging out in the sun together quite a bit. He’s a little guy, so sometimes I have to be reminded to be gentle, as I just forget how big I am! But we’re cool… I really did enjoy spending time and playing with another little dude I met not that long ago, too. They don’t seem to care how big I am. Since they are cool with me, I am totally cool with them. Foster mom says that it would probably be best if I lived in a house where I was the only pet, just so I can soak up all the love for myself! I would be ok with a little dog friend too, as long as he or she was as chill as me!I would really just love to find a family of my own who will love me and help me feel safe. Despite my size and my seemingly tough exterior, I am basically a marshmallow on the inside… a truly soft hearted dude looking for my furever home. Je suis prêt! A bientôt!

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
