a forever home for my Bullmastiff mix breed, who's name is Kona (KonaBear). I have been watching KonaBear for my son for the past year, as my son is in college and was no longer able to take care of him, due to housing issues. Due to a change in my living situation recently, I was unable to take KonaBear with me, I surrendered him to a shelter in hopes to find him a forever home. I don't want to give up in finding him a forever home. I'm reaching out to you in hopes that you might know of an adoption or fostering system or know of one, that may assist me in finding KonaBear a forever home. I'd like to tell you a little about KonaBear: He is kind, loyal, quirky, & a cuddler. He is very easy to train. I was even able to train him in a matter of seconds to quietly go upstairs if we were up before the household. My son treat trained him and I carried on this type of training. He looked forward to our weekend drive to get me a morning Vanilla Latte, One paw on my shoulder to let me know we were a team ... The coffee shop loved our visits and thought he was just adorable and had his treat ready. He is command trained with the following: Heal; sit; down; up; shake; gentle (when taking a treat); quiet (when going up the stairs); mellow; pass it up (when another dog & owner were walking across the street, etc. I had KonaBear pay attention to his walk). He loves his morning and evening walks, as well as longer walks or hikes on the weekend. He was super shy with taking pictures when he came to live with and over time, I have taught him to love taking pictures and selfies with smiles He loves to play soccer with me. He cradles the ball, I would come up from behind and kick the ball and he would chase it and then we would repeat the process. He loves grasshoppers .... while we were in Utah and I had him in the backyard of my Mom's yard I was checking on him and saw him hopping. I went to go see what was going on ... he was playing and hopping with the grasshoppers. He loves happiness, smiles & fun Please contact Diana if you would like to learn more about KonaBear at kdikernmsn

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
