ONLY dog in the home. Foster mom is a dog walker and I enjoy my pack walks with her and the crew, but I will never be a "dog park" kinda girl. Foster mom also lives with this very fluffy creature - she calls him a "cat". Hes pretty cool. I wouldn't mind living with another dog savvy, chill feline friend, but I've been known to chase anything a little smaller .. SQUIRREL!!! While I'm not the most well-behaved girl with other dogs - with people, I am the exact opposite - I am loving, affectionate, attentive and very, very eager to please. I know all my basic commands (Sit, Down, Wait, Come, etc.) and I am a quick learner. My recall is also excellent - I come pretty much right away when you call my name ... and you have to realize just how hard of a name Ophelia is to learn - really!! I am wonderful with children but, due to my energy level, I would probably be best with children 8 years and up. Being a Boxer, my energy level is quite higher than that of a couch potato, but don't get me wrong, with the proper exercise, I do love to snuggle up and watch Netflix all night. I am currently fed a raw diet - and boy, is it ever delicious. True to typical Boxer fashion, I tend to have sensitivities. I am completely house trained AND crate trained ... in fact, I love my crate because it is my safe and soft place to go to unwind closer to bedtime and it helps me to relax. So, if you are looking for a very affectionate, loving, eager to please but also higher than normal energy dog and you are experienced with my type of breed plus you are willing to work with and accept me as I am, I promise to give back to you all that I have to offer ... with a few licks to the face thrown in (if you are okay with)! Ophelia is being fostered, loved and cared for in Ajax. EXPERIENCED OWNER -children 8 years old and up -A HOME WITH NO OTHER DOGS!! -Good with "dog-savvy" cats - those who do not growl/hiss or run from dogs but accept them and are confident around them - display no fear. -Not recommended with other small animals like rabbits as she has shown prey drive. -Currently fed a raw diet as exhibited skin allergies with dog food.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
