elifeline.org/adoption-process/ for more information about our adoption process and to submit an online application. BISCUIT HAS AN ADOPTION PENDING. Biscuit is one of a litter of nine 1.5 year-old Chihuahua/Pekingese mixes who were turned into an overcrowded county dog shelter by their owner. They were very frightened at the shelter and not likely to get adopted easily there so six of them made the trip to Canine Lifeline so they could relax in a foster home while they searched for permanent new homes (the other 3 went to another rescue). These dogs seem to have lived a sheltered life before coming into the shelter so their world was totally turned upside down with all the change. Biscuit has become very affectionate with her foster mom and is one of the bravest of the bunch. She likes to explore but also likes to snuggle and give kisses. We do want to place her in a home with another dog or two as she has always lived with dogs and would be lost as an only dog. She will need a kind and patient family who will give her the time she needs to feel comfortable in her new surroundings. She has done very well with crate-training in her foster home but will likely need to work on housetraining in her new home. Biscuit has a silly face with a charming underbite. Biscuit weighs about 15 pounds and her adoption fee is $250. She’s spayed, heartworm negative and on monthly preventative, up to date on vaccinations including bivalent canine influenza, wormed, on flea preventative, and microchipped. All Canine Lifeline adoptions come with a two-week adjustment period to make sure it’s a great match before the adoption is finalized. Please email info@caninelifeline.org if you’re interested in Biscuit. An approved application is required before we schedule meets with any of our dogs. We have no foster homes with young children so aren’t comfortable placing any of them in a home with children less than 7 years of age. We try to respond to inquiries within 48 hours so if you haven’t heard from us within that time frame, please check your junkmail or spam folder to make sure our reply hasn’t landed in there. Please visit our website at www.caninelifeline.org to see more photos of Biscuit and to submit an online application.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
