Doxie-Pin Dogs For Adoption in Canton, CT, USA

Posted Breed: Dachshund / Miniature Pinscher / Mixed. You just got to love this little guy from Mississippi. The first thing you will notice are his ears. They seem so big for his little body but even

more curious than that, one ear is up and the other is down! It makes him look so darn cute. He weighs in at about 12 pounds and is around 2 years of age. He is a dachshund/min pin mix. He has a short shiny red coat as well as light brown oval eyes typical of a miniature pinscher. His body though, is more dachshund shaped and definitely closer to the ground! He has many wonderful qualities including the fact that he is comfortable with kids, dogs, and cats! He has been living with his southern foster family on a farm. He has adjusted quite well, though he is on the shy side when he meets someone new. But that only lasts until he is comfortable. If you want a dog that likes to cuddle, Captain is your man. It’s hard to understand why he was surrendered when he is such a sweet guy. Captain is house, crate, and leash trained. (Please remember that even house trained dogs may have an occasional accidents as they adjust to a new routine and a new home). He knows some commands, too. He does not jump up on furniture even when invited. Now, he is not perfect? He is generally a low energy dog, though when excited his entire body wags! He will benefit from daily walks and play time in the yard. He definitely deserves to have a forever home where he can be loved and given lots of attention. Are you the one who would welcome him into your home? If yes, read on! Captain’s adoption fee is $450. That includes the cost of neutering, up to date vaccinations, foster, rescue, and transport fees. Still interested? Then fill out our adoption application and submit it today. A Dog Star representative will contact you within 24 hours. To help speed up the process, please call your vet and give them permission to speak with us. If you do not get a response within 24 hours of submitting your application, please check your spam folder.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
