elaxed in all situations, house and leash trained, good with kids, cats and adults, and also excited to see a leash and ready to go for a few mile walk? Well, look no further! Here I am!!! I'm Sonny, an older gent that has met with unfortunate circumstances. I was adopted as a pup 10 years ago. I enjoyed a life of love, birthdays of my 2 legged brothers and all that goes with this story. Unfortunately, life took a turns and my parents got a divorced. So, here I am looking for a second loving home. I'm a great boy loving all things. Kids, dogs, cats and just about anything will be fine with me. My new foster home has a HUGE yard and I'm getting back into shape. Mom says I have a few pounds to lose and am on an exercise and weight loss routine. Soon I'll be slim and trim! I do enjoy the exercise, walks, running with my foster buds and just hanging Mom says an active home would be the best as 1-2 walks a day really excite me. I'm no slouch as I do hoof it when out on a walk, so better have those sneakers on! I love to see the world on the end of a leash! Although I do follow my nose, my leash walking is just fine. I give sweet kisses, will look for toys in the toy box, eat side by side with my "6" foster buds and am Totally House Trained! Mom says I'm a GEM! I follow her EVERYWHERE! She's kind of nice.... gives great hugs and Oh the back scratches!!!! LIFE IS GOOD! Videos are now posted, see me playing with one of mom's past foster girls who happened to visit. My new look of "Slim Sonny" is on the way. I do have some of those fatty tumors but they don't bother me. Kind of gives me personality ya know! The vet gave me a CLEAN BILL OF HEALTH! So, if you are looking for a boy that will love to go for daily walks, rides in the car and just hang out, here I am! My name should be spelled "SUNNY" as that's my personality. Outgoing, ready for adventure and loving life! His adoption donation includes neutering, vaccinations, implanting of a microchip, application of flea meds and worming. Sonny is in foster care so please complete an application at our website (www.castawaycritters.org) before meeting him. Completing an application does not obligate you to adopt; however, it is required. Applications are processed in the order received in an effort to find the best match possible for both the dog and the adopter.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
