Updated pics and profile to follow soon but we expect Huggins to attend our Meet and Greet this Sunday, July 9, from Noon-2pm at the Lazy Dog Restaurant patio, Village on the Parkway Shopping Center, 5100 Belt Line Road, #500, Addison. The center is anchored by Whole Foods, AMC, and many restaurants such as Pluckers, Neighborhood Services, Kenny’s, Hopdoddy and lots more.
Update: 5/20/2017: Huggins has come a long way since GRRALL took him in last September. He came to us in terrible shape – emaciated, anemic, ears in horrible shape, skin infections, heartworm positive, flea infested, undersocialized, and fearful. Now he’s happy and healthy and looking good! He loves to eat and is a great weight now at about 70 lbs. His foster mom calls him her sweet survivor because he’s conquered many obstacles and transformed from a sick, skinny, scared boy into a healthy, secure, loving boy who has so much desire to keep learning and pleasing people! He’s learned to sit for his supper, take treats gently, shake hands, and walk on a leash. He loves to be brushed and stroked and will even roll onto his back so you can pet his tummy, but only after he knows you well. He loves to lie near his foster mom and dad’s recliners, and he gives the best tongue massages to his mom’s feet every night! He’s not afraid of storms or to be left alone now and then. Huggins is not much on playing or wrestling with other dogs but he is fine being around them, and bonus – he’s good with cats! The best home for Huggins is with someone who can give him their undivided attention and continue his good boy education so he can be his very best.

Huggins Update 3/1/2017: Huggins has made incredible strides in his health since he first arrived at GRRALL. Looking at his before and after pictures (see comments), you can't even tell it's the same dog! From shockingly thin, anemic, and weak, to healthy and happy...it's a HUGE change. Huggins is undergoing heartworm treatment now that he is healthy enough fo ... r it, and thankfully that is going well. He may need surgery and a biopsy for an ear polyp, but we're hoping that will be no big deal.
Huggins is a very loyal boy who loves his foster family. He may do best as an only dog, as he likes to have his foster mom all to himself. His foster family has done such a wonderful job caring for him, and they can't wait to help him find his forever home. Huggins Update: 2/6/2017: Wow, looks at Huggins now! Huggins has been with GRRALL for 7 months (!!) now and is finally healthy enough to start his heartworm treatment. Our boy came into GRRALL an emaciated mess, fleas, ear infections, heartworm positive; dumped and forgotten, until an amazing group of volunteers, and loving foster family, stepped in to help Huggins. He is thriving now and although it breaks our hearts for him to endure heartworm treatment, it is the last step on his journey to health and a permanent home. We will post updates on his progress, but Huggins is the reason we stress the importance of heartworm prevention, beg for donations, and then all smile wide with contentment when we see the results of our labors. UPDATE: 12-20-2016: Hugging is doing great!! Our boy continues to put on very much needed healthy weight and he is up to 71 lbs now, almost unrecognizable from the emaciated boy rescued several months ago. Huggins is healthy enough now to be scheduled for heartworm treatment, which will start after the holidays. He is a very playful and energetic boy, and continues to make great strides learning how to be a much loved and adored family member.
UPDATE: 12-2-2016:
Huggins came to us back in August, completely emaciated and anemic. Look at how pitiful his "before" picture is...but now look at him!
Huggins' foster mom has worked very hard with him and helped him put on 10 pounds, bringing him up to 66 pounds of furry cuteness! Huggins has learned to sit and shake hands. He loves to play catch with the tennis ball and will even bring it back to you! He's still working on the release part, though. He ge ts along well with dogs AND cats. We don't think he has spent much time around kids because he gets very excited around them, and will jump, paw, and be mouthy, but they are working on that. It's clear Huggins wasn't initially used to being indoors, and sometimes he prefers to be with people, just not right next to them all the time. Huggins is a happy guy who loves life and would love to share his zest for life with the perfect adopter!
Huggins will not be available for adoption for a little while longer. Unfortunately, he is heartworm positive, and will likely start treatment in January. Update: 10-4-2016: Looking great!!! New picture!
Look who it is! It's Huggins! Huggins came to us from the shelter completely emaciated and anemic. He was also very fearful. After weeks at the vet and time with our behaviorist, Huggins is happily in a foster home. He is thriving and as you can see, he is getting closer and closer to a healthy weight. Huggins is a 2.5 year old male and has already been neutered. Unfortunately, he is heartworm po sitive, but his fantastic foster is going to take him through treatment and he will be ready for adoption once he's cured. His foster lovingly describes him as a "diamond in the rough." He's great with other dogs AND cats, very affectionate, but could use some training to learn some manners and boundaries. He loves being with people and is adapting very well considering all he's been through. We'll post more on Huggins once his heartworm treatment is complete and he's available for adoption. Update from NTGD: 9-22-2016:
Huggins is one of our current dogs in our program. He came to us in August from the Tyler shelter, severely emaciated, riddled with infections of the skin and ears, and anemic. He has been under the care of our vet since August trying to get him healthy again. We just got word last week that our vet was finally able to get his anemia under control. However, he is under-socialized and fearful. Huggins will be working with our dog behaviorist and will go into foster care when i t is determined he is ready. To date, we have spent $1,486 getting Huggins healthy and on the path to be adoption-ready. This number is a moving target because Huggins is still in our care, and we are not sure how long it will be before he's deemed adoptable.

Huggins need some hugs! This gorgeous boy was just rescued from a local shelter, caring staff who reached out to GRRALL to help save his life. In such a short time on this earth Huggins ended up a stray, emaciated, fleas, ear infections, and no surprise, heartworm positive. What is surprising is his attitude and demeanor; he is a happy, loving, and grateful boy and knows the worst is behind him. It often takes so little time for a dog like Huggins to fully cover from such neglect, and with the continued support of our foster families, volunteers, and donors we know Huggins will make some lucky adopter an incredible forever companion.
