37 lbs, I came from Mississippi, but my southern roots haven’t stopped me from falling in love with the Northeast! I’m being fostered in Collingwood, NJ - therefore interested adopters have to come meet me at my foster’s home. I’m a super sweet, gentle, well-behaved, active, and curious girl. I already have a good handle on potty training at my foster mom's house, where I follow the lead of her other dogs. I am very good about going into my crate at naptime and for breaks when my foster mom has to leave the house. At bedtime, I sleep through the night for an average of 8 hours. Because I am young and still teething, I absolutely love to chew things, so you need to keep an eye on me and give me appropriate chew toys, bones, etc. On car rides, I’m good once I’m in the car, but I am initially nervous about getting in, so I need encouragement, patience, and a lift up. With practice and by going to some fun places, instead of just the vet, I’ll learn to hop into a car on my own, because I do love going on adventures! My favorite thing in the world is spending time with people. I enjoy chasing balls that are thrown for me and playing tug, and I love to snuggle with my foster mom. Being a medium-sized pup, a small spot on the couch right next to you will be perfect! I love kids almost as much as I love food! I know the command “sit” and I take treats very gently. I also understand and obey “leave it,” even when I would love to have the thing I’m supposed to leave. I get along with all of the dogs that I’ve met so far, AND I love cats! My foster mom has 4 dogs and 4 cats of her own. She also fosters other dogs AND she dog-sits, so there are all shapes and sizes of dogs here every single day! I absolutely LOVE to play … inside or outside, rain or shine! If the other dogs won’t play with me, I will get a toy and throw it for myself, chew on a bone, or just hang out and watch what’s going on around me. If I sound like your kind of dog, and you’re ready to spend time teaching me new things, taking me places, and generally loving me to pieces, please apply for me today! I’m not getting any younger, and I can’t wait to shower my forever humans with abundant love and affection! ● Approximate Age: 10 months● Weight: 36.8 Pounds ● Physical fence required ● Exercise needs: Moderate ● Activity level: Moderate ● Shedding amount: Moderate ● Grooming needs: Low ● Reaction to new people: Friendly, but timid ● Another dog in the home is recommended ● Good with dogs AND cats ● Good with people, including children Please email us at AlmostHome4Dogsyahoo is the right one for you! (Local adoptions preferred — Philadelphia and tri-state area [South Jersey and northern Delaware] only.) PLEASE READ BEFORE CONTACTING US! We are NOT a shelter: All of our dogs live in private homes with foster families. Come and meet the Almost Home dogs and their fosters at our Meet & Greet events, where you can learn more about our wonderful dogs from the people who live with them, find out which dogs are on their way and when they’ll arrive, and fill out an application to adopt or foster. We cannot adopt to homes where electric-shock fencing systems or training collars are used. For more information on the dangers of electric-shock collars, please visit banshockcollars.ca/studies.php . We do not have an online adoption application; to request an application, e-mail us at AlmostHome4Dogsyahoo. To speed e-mail processing time, be sure to note the name of the dog you are inquiring about in the Subject line. For Meet & Greet times and locations, visit our home page, where you also will find information on our adoption process and fees. FOSTER FAMILIES ARE LIFESAVERS!! Can you open your heart and home for a few weeks to homeless shelter dog? Remember, by fostering a dog, you save TWO lives — that of your foster dog, and that of the dog who takes his place in the shelter! Come to a Meet & Greet and find out if fostering is for you — there's no reward quite like the feeling that you've saved a life ... or two!

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
