is microchipped. Meet Lucy! She's the mama of the Kleur litter and sweet as can be. Lucy appears to be a lab mix, probably born sometime in January 2015. She's a laid-back dog who loves playing with her squeaky chew toys, going for walks, and cuddling. She's happy to go for a ride in the car or relax at home. She's very friendly and just so happy to see you! She's super affectionate and loves people, kids, and other dogs, but she hasn't met any cats yet. She's house trained and is quiet and clean in her crate (where she now sleeps at night), but she does pull when walking on a leash a bit. With some obedience training, she could surely master some essential doggy skills. She's very smart and treat-motivated - a perfect combination for training a new furry friend! Plus, dog training classes are a great opportunity for the pup to bond with her new human(s) and socialize with classmates. Lucy can be food aggressive with other dogs, but has not been with people, so she would need to be fed separately from a fur sibling - she shares a water bowel with no issues. She doesn't go after her foster siblings when they come near her toys, but she will defend them. After being rescued from animal control in Rosenberg, Texas, with her eight new puppies, it's time for Lucy to find her forever home! This beautiful girl understands where her foster feeds her and goes there to eat; she also knows where she gets her treats and goes there, too. She's a real jewel! Have you fallen in love with her sweet face? Fill out an application for Lucy today! Medical Note: This dog has been treated for heartworm disease with melarsomine injections. Once treatment is completed and the dog tests negative for microfilaria, the dog will be cleared to resume normal activity and able to be adopted, which we anticipate to be sometime in December. Untreated heartworm disease can cause lasting damage to the heart, lungs and arteries, and can affect the dog’s health and quality of life even after the parasites are gone, possibly presenting as medical complications and/or new conditions in the future. This dog showed no symptoms of heartworm disease before or during treatment. A good resource for more information on heartworm disease is: .heartwormsociety/pet-owner-resources/heartworm-basics . Please check with your vet if you should have any questions or concerns about this condition, and discuss any concerns you may have with your SOS Adoption Counselor. Adoption Fee: $585 To apply for this dog, fill out an adoption application on our website: .sosarl/aa/ **Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
