ut doesn't that just want to make you give the little guy a chance?! Here is what his fosters have to say about him! "Giuseppe loves food so he will try to get his paws on anything, I mean anything he can eat! He eats in his crate and barks when he’s done. He’s the fastest eater out of all 6 dogs here! Giuseppe will still lift his leg on just about everything inside, but when he’s inside he has his belly band on and that takes care of it! He absolutely loves to go outside and run around, he will sometimes just go to the door and bark to get outside and he doesn’t even need to go potty. For exercise Giuseppe is accustomed to walks around the neighborhood, a walk around the block, simply wandering the yard, and he even goes to fenced off leash dog parks! I seriously cannot believe he is 12, he has as much energy as our puppies!! He loves to run around and bark at everything, he’s a very avid watch dog and protects his home from any delivery man, mail man, or client of ours. He’s super sneaky though, so someone always has to be holding him when the front door is open otherwise he will dash out faster than you can blink! He likes all of the dogs he meets, and cats too! Giuseppe is pretty good with any women that come into the house, he barks and then calms down. He’s not a huge fan of some men that come into the house, sometimes he won’t stop barking until they leave and growls at them when they try to pet him. Giuseppe is such a happy, energetic pup! His biggest thing to watch out for is the escaping out the front door. He is great in the bath, and even wags his tail the whole time. He doesn’t like to be picked up (probably due to his rib injuries before he was rescued) but he will let you and calms down after he barks a few times. He sometimes he tries to scare off the dog that looks exactly like him in the reflection of the window and gets confused when he doesn’t leave." We know, we know... He doesn't sound like the most perfect dog, but who needs perfection? You can handle bellybands and a double door system at your front door! Be Giuseppe's hero and apply at .frostedfacesfoundation/apply/ ________________________ 12-year-old Giuseppe was found on railroad tracks and brought to Harbor Animal Shelter as a stray on September 19th. X-rays showed that Giuseppe had several broken ribs where no healing was noted, which means that this was a recent injury. We discussed how perhaps he may have been hit by a car but considering his size he would've been crushed if hit at this angle. It is a safe to say Giuseppe was probably kicked pretty hard causing this damage. Giuseppe actually loves being held. He is the first dog to run to us and try to crawl in our laps. He protects himself and lets out a low growl when you pick him up or try to tuck his arms into a t-shirt, but it subsides once he's in your arms. He always tries to squeeze inside through opening doors during his play yard time, so it almost explains how he may have become a stray. Giuseppe is great with dogs who are big and small, and even cats! Giuseppe is ready for family and he really stinkin' deserves a good one! Apply at frostedfacesfoundation/apply/ Frosted Faces Foundation does not charge an adoption fee.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
