*Come meet Princessa and other, great adoptable dogs this Sun. (Mar. 5) from 12 – 2 PM at the Unleashed by Petco (5400 Lee Hwy, Arlington, VA 22207)*** PRINCESSA NEEDS A FOREVER HOME! Name: Princessa Breed: Min Pin Mix Approximate Age: 4 years SEX: female Approximate Weight: 12lb Has Lived With: other dogs Currently Living at: Puerto Rico now in DC area and looking for her forever home! This little girl was rescued from a pretty bad situation. But she has bounced back and is ready to enjoy her new life! Speaking of bouncing, can she ever jump!! As a typical little Min Pin, she can jump several feet straight up in the air! It would be fun (and no double pretty easy) to train her to jump right into your arms. Princess is so hoping to be someone's little Princess, complete with squeaky toys, yummy meals, a cushy bed, lots of walks and chances to jump(!) and most of all a warm lap to curl up on in the evenings. Note from Princessa's local foster Mom..... Well, our tiny Princessa has a huge personality! She is up for anything, including long walks, fetches, tossing around stuffed toys, and frequent cuddles. Several times today, she jumped four feet into my arms, then started showering me with kisses! Sweet! She also has quickly learned how to sit. She is working on her housetraining (no accidents today) and other manners! She fussed a little in the crate last night, but once she settled, she slept through the night. Definitely a cutie pie, but needs an active adopter! Princessa has a ton of love to give and is pretty excited about sharing it with her new family. If you think Princessa sounds perfect for your home please contact the coordinator listed below. (Sue) Because Princess is waiting to be found! Note: Dogs names can always be changed. Like most shelter dogs, Princess may need a refresher on housetraining. She is likely crate trained. The adoption fee for this dog is $350, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations and spay/neuter. If you are interested in adopting or additional information, please download our Adoption Questionnaire and email it to Sue C at suec@luckydoganimalrescue.org! 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
