meet some of our dogs, please see HERE Age: 5 years (as of 8/27/23) Weight: 9 lbs (as of 12/13/23) Location: RI This dog has been spayed/neutered, is up to date on shots, on heartworm preventative and is microchipped. Charlie Schnauz is a sweet and happy purebred Miniature Schnauzer who deserves to be cherished forever. He is five years old, and was recently surrendered by a breeder, along with many other small dogs who all have papers and are currently available for adoption. Charlie is the sort of dog who will truly touch your heart. He is getting used to home life and what that is like. He has not had many life experiences and is looking for a quiet household where he can take things slow and build trust. He can be unsure of handling, this may be due to his limited sight and hearing. Due to this we do not recommend him for a home with children. He is house trained and has just begun his leash training and is making progress in these early stages. He is mild-mannered and eager to please. As a previously kenneled dog, he has not interacted with many people or other animals yet, but so far, he has been reliably friendly and gentle towards everyone who has spent time with him. He has lived with both dogs and cats. Charlie would love to cuddle for hours on someone's lap, and he is going to be a delightful and kind companion to anyone who is lucky enough to bring him home! Medical Note: Charlie has some hearing loss but is not deaf and may have some sight impairment. He also has some dental issues, which are currently being addressed. Please check with your vet if you should have any questions about these conditions and discuss any concerns you may have with your SOS Adoption Counselor. An adoption donation is required for each adoption; please see HERE for more information about this. To apply for this dog, fill out an adoption application on our website: .sosarl/aa/ * *Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
