snuggle-bear! Kimmy absolutely loves everyone she meets; small humans, big humans, small dogs and big dogs, she is simply a social butterfly. As a people pleaser she is always ready and waiting to accompany you, whether its on a long walk or on an afternoon siesta, she is ready! Did we mention that she loves sleeping in? Her go with the flow attitude, allows you the luxury of having a wonderful night of rest. Kimmy would happily join you in your bed or just as happily lay in a crate or doggie bed. Kimmy looks you right in the eye as you pet her as if to say "I love you". Unlike most hounds, Kimmy takes her time when it comes to eating. She shows no sign of resource guarding and is getting along great with her Beagle foster sibling. Kimmy has also met a cat with a wagging tail and a happy curiosity. Kimmy is a very quiet girl who LOVES her walks. She is doing a great job of leash walking and only pulls a little when she sees a person or dog she wants to say hello to. Kimmy is housetrained and does not require a crate, but will go in one if that is your preference while you are away. A great travel companion, she lays down in the back seat and enjoys the ride! Kimmy is a hound mix, between 2 and 3 years old, and weighs 60 pounds. She has a beautiful coat and hardly sheds at all! She's truly a puppy at heart ready to explore the world. An active family wanting a perfect hiking/walking/travel companion will not be disappointed with Kimmy as a loving addition. Please Note: We are all volunteers and busy taking care of our foster dogs so please take the time to fill out our on-line adoption application if you are interested in more information about any of the hounds that we have for adoption. Filling out our application does not obligate you to adopt in any way. It does, however, help us to determine if the dog that your interested in would be a good match for your family and lifestyle. All of our dogs are fully vetted. They have been vaccinated, altered, microchipped and heartworm tested and on prevention. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
