into rescue with very limited life experiences. He has blossomed in rescue, though! He came from a situation where he was indoors 24/7 and was fearful of the outdoors when he first got to his foster home, but he took right to it and LOVES his outside time so much now! He's done AMAZING with house training and really has benefited from the positive reinforcement of his person being there to tell him what a good boy he is pottying outside. He loves to please his person and seeks that praise after he does his business. A belly band is recommended as he is still capable of accidents but is working hard on this. Due to 6 years of no new experiences, he's cautious around new people. Understandably! As a result, homes with young children just aren't a good match for Theodore. To his credit, he has excellent dog body language and it's easy to tell if he wants attention from new people or would like to take more time before being petted. Although, once he loves you, he LOVES you. He really has bonded with his foster mom and dad and loves lap time, snuggles, playtime and being with his people. Sometimes too much, lol. As a result, he can have a bit of separation anxiety and really benefits from dog friends to keep him company and not having too much alone time away from his people. Someone who works a lot outside of the home would not be an ideal match for him as a forever home. He loves to go for car rides, and really enjoys exploring new places in the great outdoors. He does well with other dogs, but prefers those similar to him in size and likes to curl up by his dog buddy for snoozes throughout the day. A watchdog, he definitely is, but quiets down easily when told it's okay. Theodore is a loving dog, who has come a very long way, but needs his own forever home that will meet him in the middle, understanding where he's come from, and willing to love him as much as he will love them. My adoption donation is $ 300 +tax $20.63 All dogs are current on core vaccines, spayed/neutered, heartworm tested and on preventative, micro-chipped and if recommended by a Vet have had a dental cleaning and other treatment to get and keep them healthy while in the rescues care. All dogs are living in foster homes and house manners including potty training and any behavioral issues are being worked on. But we never say our dogs are 100% house trained as when they transition to a new home there can be accidents while they adjust to a new environment and schedule. PNC Rescue is a 501c3 non-profit and any and all donations over and above the adoption donation are tax deductible. We have a large group of dogs in our Furever Foster program that acts as a foster based sanctuary for dogs not likely to be adopted. The rescue keeps these dogs healthy, comfortable and on necessary medications with necessary treatments for life. If you have any questions please feel free to contact us via email, pncrescue@yahoo.com and remember we are all volunteers. Your patience is appreciated!

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
