dog today. We'll update as more information is known. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. Are you looking to adopt within the next 30 days? If so please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and complete the application. You'll find it in the menu on the left hand side. You'll also find a total listing of all our dogs available. Just browsing but interested in poodles and poodle mixes? Please drop a note to applications@carolinapoodlerescue.org with your name, address and phone # and email. We'll add you to our mailing list. thanks the CPR Adoption team Date into Rescue: 01/03/2017 Reason for being in rescue: Found as a stray, original owners were located but chose not to pick her up. Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? allergies Weight: est 12 lbs Height: about 10" at the shoulder Adoption Fee: $269 Fence needed? No What kind of home would be best for me? Mindy would fit well in a number of homes but one of my preferences is for a home with a friendly, lively companion dog to play with her. She could tolerate folks who work if she had a friend to keep her company during the day. What is my personality like? Mindy is an even tempered, affectionate little girl who seems to have never met a stranger. She loves other dogs and is playful. She loves toys and can often be found tossing stuffies around the yard. Mindy has one bad habit - if there is a hole in your fence she is going to be through it. She is happy in a secured fenced area with her buddies but please remember that we are constantly in and out all day checking on our babies. Mindy is not a dog I would ever leave alone, even for long enough to go to the bathroom and come back in. She is so curious and eager to explore her world and she'll go popping off just to see what is around the next corner. She is not a runaway - she comes back. But the world can be a dangerous place for a little girl. Best you go with her each time she goes out. Mindy was severely matted when we got her. As soon as her ears and rear end were shaved down, we found out why. She was constantly licking herself. She currently takes 1/2 benadryl once per day and she is being transitioned to a unique protein diet- Blue Buffalo Wilderness rabbit. It takes 4 to 6 weeks for a food switch to do it's magic when it comes to allergies. We're hoping to transition Mindy off the benadryl soon. She is responding beautifully to the food. She also seems to be able to tolerate hot dogs as treats with no side effects so far. I don't think her allergies are seasonal - she was itching even in the winter. I think they are all food related. Another plus - Mindy seems to shed very little. How I act when I first meet new people: Happy and friendly. House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. When Mindy lived in our admin offices the first two weeks, she had a few accidents then, as she learned the schedule, those stopped. She is crate trained and will not soil her crate. I think with a good schedule she will house train to her new home easily. My age: Est 4 years, est birthday 1/3/13 Please note - we do not ship dogs. If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip. To apply, please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and visit the tab on the left that directions you to the online application. Please note that when screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, color, age, etc. Others here may be a better fit for you. It is very difficult to get to know a living animal from a picture and a short description. Since we are constantly getting in new dogs, this may be a dog not in our listings yet. We want you to be very happy with your new companion and will make suggestions based on what you tell us about you. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
