My new family doted on me like crazy. I wore dresses and had bows in my hair and went everywhere with my humans. Over the years, I noticed something changing. I no longer seemed to be important. I would watch my humans come and go but no longer was I getting the attention and love I used to get. Days went by... then months... then years. Then I noticed I couldn’t see so well... and as my eyesight faded so did my view of my humans. Then I noticed a flea... then two.. then three... then hundreds. I scratched and scratched... but nothing relieved me from them. Then I started losing my hair and weight. I couldn’t see my humans anymore, but I was wondering why no one was noticing what was happening to me! Please help me! Then one day, I took a ride. Yay... a ride! I’m so excited! My human handed me off to a stranger and I heard my human say she couldn’t deal with my skin issues anymore and I was an inconvenience. I’m so sad! What did I do wrong? The kind lady that my human handed me to (who I found out was Angela at Bossier City Animal Control)... took a picture of me. She sent that picture to someone else and said “can you take her?” The lady responded “sending Tommy right now”. Then this man showed up and he took me to another place... where they stuck needles in my legs and gave me a pill and all of a sudden... all the fleas were gone! After months and years of trying to get rid of them myself... they were gone! All of them! But they had already done a lot of damage to me. I am missing a lot of my hair... and where there is hair, it’s very thin. They also say I’m very anemic. I’m not sure what that means, but I get a really tasty pill every day that they say is supposed to make me better and then they can give me vaccinations to protect me from other diseases. After they finished with me, I went to a place where I met a bunch of really nice people who give me awesome food and they say I eat like a horse. I have soft clean bed to lay my head and tiny frail body. What is this place? I just want to stay here forever! My story is not unlike many other pets who live with owners who at one time loved and adored them... but as we age... we become disposable. We should be family and when we become seniors and when we need our humans the most... they should be there for us... not consider us a burden. Despite my past and what my human did to me... I am now a happy little girl... who loves to be held and cuddled and adored and most importantly... FED! I love food! Now that you’ve read my story... below are some things you need to know.” Love, Pixie

**IMPORTANT NOTES**
*All of our adoptable dogs are small, and they are never to be left outside alone, ever! We only rehome our dogs to adopters that plan to have them as inside dogs and part of the family! We do allow adopters with doggie doors, provided there is SECURE fencing. There is no exception to this rule!
*NO SMALL CHILDREN!! As with almost all the dogs at NR2R, young children or a very active household is not recommended. Many of our dogs come to us BECAUSE of small children, thus we do not rehome our dogs to homes with babies or young children. KEEP THIS IN MIND IF YOU HAVE VISITING GRANDCHILDREN AS WELL! Even if the children are older, it would depend on the child AND the parent or parents.
*HOUSETRAINING: We do NOT guarantee that any of our adoptable dogs are housetrained. While most should be easily trained, keep in mind that they live in a rescue where they have access to the outdoors all day and are inside at night. Even if they were surrendered to us as housetrained, it doesn’t mean they will automatically be housetrained in your home. Housetraining them should be easy in the right home with time, patience, and consistency.
*We do not guarantee the age, health or temperament of any of the dogs we rehome. Many of the dogs we take in come from animal control and rarely do we have histories and even when we do, many times the histories are inaccurate.
*Only adopters with a responsible dog ownership history and excellent vet reference need apply. If you bring this pet into your heart and home, you will receive in return many years of love, companionship, and loyalty. That’s our guarantee.
Other notes: This pet is available for adoption through Ninna’s Road to Rescue, Benton, La. We are 501c3 non-profit organization. Our mission is to rescue small-breed dogs and a handful of cats and to re-home them into RESPONSIBLE and CARING forever homes. To apply to be approved to adopt, please e-mail roadtorescue@bellsouth.net for an adoption application.
Time may be of the essence if you are looking to adopt a specific animal. We do not reserve animals, unless and until we have approved your application, provided the animal is still available at the time we receive your application. The first APPROVED application we receive will be considered. We are NOT a first come, first serve rescue!! We adopt our rescues out to the RIGHT home, not just A home. Only responsible pet owners need apply.
Applying to adopt does NOT commit you to the adoption until you’ve met the pet (unless you already have).
