Statistics Name: Rabbit Breed: Pomeranian Age: 3.5 Years Size: Small 18 lbs. ~Small Range: Up to 25 lbs Adoption Donation: $180 (applicable sales tax included). Adoption fees may be paid with cash or check. Other*: Neutered Male, Vaccinations current, Microchip, Older considerate children, allergies Rabbit is an active little guy who needs a home Foster Home Feedback * Older considerate children *Rabbit has allergies and needs to eat a prescription diet and takes medication to control his itching and other allergy symptoms. Rabbit also has a thyroid condition and needs to take daily medication to manage this. He will need yearly blood testing to ensure that his medication is working effectively. His medications and food cost around $121-153/month. 8/3/17: Rabbit loves attention! He's a gorgeous boy with a beautiful coat (which obviously sheds) BUT he likes to be brushed. The fur that comes out is like a fluffy, little cotton ball. He's currently 1 of 5 dogs and 2 cats at my house and does okay with the dogs. He doesn't seem to be a fan of the cats however and likes to stand in front of their baby-gated doorway and bark at them. He doesn't try to get at them, he's satisfied with annoying them - and me. He barks at the dogs when he is unsure of a particular situation but will run and chase with the other 2 small dogs endlessly. Rabbit is loose in the house when I am gone, with a potty break at lunch on work days. He sleeps on the bed with me, usually at the foot. As mentioned above, Rabbit eats special food and is on a few medications. It's actually very easy to manage. He takes a pill for his thyroid twice a day and is now taking his allergy med every-other day. I just add them to his meals and that's it. He loves his food so the pills go down without a fuss. I think Rabbit would do best in a home without too much chaos. Small, noisy children are outside his comfort zone but older, respectful kids would be fine. He might even decide to be a bed buddy for someone. I have discovered that he can be protective of his toys and not always willing to share. He doesn't require a lot of exercise and is satisfied to go out in the yard 4 or 5 times a day. Rabbit is ready to pack up and move to his forever home. If you are interested in meeting him, please fill out an app! To view additional dogs available for adoption, please see our website: www.4luvofdog.org

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
