0 lbs House-Trained: Yes Crate-Trained: Yes Other Pets: Good with dogs and cats (except during mealtimes) Good with Kids: No—needs an adult-only home Energy Level: Moderate—active for a senior and enjoys walks Special Needs: Food guarding behavior; hyperthyroidism (medication required) Why You’ll Love Toby Roby: A classic Miniature Pinscher—spirited, loyal, and full of character Housetrained, crate trained, and well-mannered Great on leash and enjoys daily strolls Loves to snuggle in soft spots like couch pillows or under covers Independent but affectionate—warms up with time and patience A great match for a low-key adult home that understands his quirks About Toby Roby’s Breed: Miniature Pinscher Don’t let the size fool you—Miniature Pinschers are bold, spirited, and confident little dynamos. Often nicknamed the “King of Toys,” Min Pins are lively, intelligent, and fiercely loyal. They love being involved in everything and thrive in homes where they can explore, play, and soak up attention. Their independent streak makes them both entertaining and a little headstrong, so consistency and understanding go a long way. These sleek, fearless pups bring big-dog energy in a compact frame. Toby Roby’s Story & Personality: Toby Roby is a senior gentleman with a strong personality and a heart that just needs the right person to love him as he is. He’s housetrained, respectful indoors, and good with other pets—except during meals, where he prefers to dine without interruption. Toby has some food guarding behavior and should only be adopted by someone familiar with managing that dynamic. Because of this, he’s best suited for an adult-only home. His foster shares: "Toby is a very sweet boy, but it takes him a little while to warm up. When it’s food time, he jumps up in the air until you set the bowl on the ground, then beware of approaching this little bugger! After meals he returns to his sweet self." Outside of mealtime, Toby loves lounging on pillows, burrowing under covers, and being part of his person’s daily life. He does have hyperthyroidism, which is easily managed with medication and doesn’t slow him down one bit. Toby Roby’s Perfect Home: A calm, adult-only household Someone familiar with food guarding behavior A fenced yard or commitment to daily walks A cozy home with soft spots to snuggle A patient, loving adopter who respects his space—especially at mealtime Ready to Make Toby Roby Yours? Toby Roby is neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, and ready to charm the right adopter with his spunky spirit and snuggly side. If you love the bold personality of Min Pins and are ready to give a senior dog the pampered retirement he deserves, Toby Roby is waiting for you. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
