Dog a Home Rescue in Sebec, Maine. They arrived in the US on 28th January 2025 and were transported to the rescue, where they are settling in. Health & Background ✅ Cleared by the US Canine Center for Diseases upon entry into the US ✅ Spayed ✅ Rabies and core vaccines up to date ✅ Heartworm and tick tested negative ✅ On monthly preventatives ✅ Microchipped ⚖️ Weighs around 56 pounds Estimated DOB: 2 February 2021 Front leg amputee ‍ Mother of BINKY, who has since been adopted GEYRAN - FOSTER FAMILY UPDATE We picked Geyran up at Give a Dog a Home rescue in Sebec on September 1st, and have fostered her for one week so far. She started out being clearly nervous and skittish around us -- and who could blame her after what she's experienced in the world so far? But it's been the most amazing thing to see her change from day to day, becoming more confident and loving and playful from one day to the next. This girl has a lot of love to give, and absolutely adores being loved on. While she still has a long way to go to being her most confident self, with the quick progress she's making, it's clear the only thing standing between her and her best self is a little time and a lot of love. Geyran happily sleeps in her crate with the door open during the night, doesn't bother you when you're still sleeping, and then comes to greet you and get some rubs when you get out of bed. She is a very clever girl, and despite having never lived in a home before, knows to only potty outside. First thing in the morning she follows close behind me to the front door, then goes straight outside to do her business. During the day she naps on her bed in the living room, and makes trips outside with us when we go out. She is a huge fan of taking a walk on the trail in the woods behind our house. We have been trying to convince her to take it easy with short jaunts only while she adjusts from a more sedentary life in the Oman rescue and GaDah rescue, to being more active. Geyran certainly seems to be good with other dogs, because she manages to get on with our dog Apollo, who has a fairly severe case of only-child syndrome and wants everything to be about him. While Apollo does resource guard us despite our best efforts, Geyran takes it in stride. While I don't think they'll ever be snuggle buddies, they get along as well as we ever could have hoped considering what a tough nut to crack Apollo is. Geyran does try to engage Apollo in play sometimes, but our snooty dog has mostly turned his nose up at her. The only chance we've had to see them play together is when we get either Geyran or Apollo worked up and when one starts to do some zoomies, then the other usually can't resist joining in and suddenly they are lapping the house together. When we bring Geyran into the bedroom at night to sleep, she first comes to our bedside to get lots of rubs alongside Apollo before we turn out the lights and she heads into her crate. She's come to love this routine, and she seems so happy when the both of us are giving attention to them together....I think it's her favorite part of the day. It's honestly been making it harder and harder to stop giving her attention and turn off the light each night. I hope someone out there will finally give this sweet, sweet girl the chance she deserves to find her family, and discover all that she has to give once she has a chance to settle down in her forever home. GEYRAN’s Personality Can be skittish in the kennels, but once comfortable, is very affectionate and craves human attention Has become more reserved since her son Binky was adopted Loves treats — may try to steal kennel mates' snacks (likely from past survival instincts), but not aggressive Good with other dogs, though can be a little bossy at times ‍♀️ Despite being a front leg amputee, she is active and fast — check out her videos! ❤️ Desperate for love and affection — just needs time to build confidence with new people What GEYRAN Needs A family that can provide a healthy lifestyle, both mentally and physically Good quality food, toys, and treats Regular veterinary wellness checks ⏳ Patience and understanding as she adjusts and builds trust GEYRAN’s Story Lived on the streets of Oman with her pups for about a year, socializing with kind locals She and her puppies were shot — only her son Binky survived Sustained two gunshot wounds to her leg, leading to amputation ❤️ Despite everything, she remains incredibly happy and social, loving everyone she meets About Wadi Dogs Stray dogs in Oman, often called “Wadi Dogs,” are a unique mix of sighthound breeds, believed to descend from the majestic Saluki and other smaller agile breeds, many resembling whippets. Without rescue, these dogs often face harsh fates such as being shot or hit by vehicles. Adoption Details Adoption fee: $350 Location: Sebec, Maine Families must complete and submit an adoption application Once approved, you’ll be invited to schedule an appointment to meet GEYRAN and hopefully take her home ⏱️ Applications are typically processed within 24 hours Click here to complete the Adoption Questionnaire Want to See More of GEYRAN? 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
