m currently living with my amazing foster family, enjoying all the cuddles and care while I wait for my forever home. Could it be with YOU? I recently visited the vet, and I’m feeling better than ever! My allergies are under control with daily meds, and my ear infection has completely healed (just a few ear drops once a week keep me in tip-top shape). The vet says my ear care might be a long-term thing, especially if we can figure out any food allergies. But with the right care, I’m going to be a happy, healthy companion for years to come! I'm a true people pup and love nothing more than being by your side. Whether we're lounging on the couch, playing with my favorite toys, or just hanging out, I'm at my happiest when I'm with my humans. I’d love a calm, loving home where I can be the center of your world—whether that’s as your one-and-only furry friend or with a laid-back dog sibling who shares my love for the simple joys in life. I haven’t met any kids yet, but with my friendly, affectionate nature, I’m sure I’d get along just fine with little ones. When it comes to meeting other dogs, I can be a little excited, so slow introductions are best. I promise I’m full of love, just eager to make new friends! I’m already a pro at sitting, and I’ve got plenty of playful energy to keep you entertained! A backyard for zoomies would be amazing, but I’m just as happy playing with my toys—especially tennis balls—and getting plenty of treats and cuddles. Speaking of treats, I follow a special fish-based diet (no beef or chicken for me, please!), and I’m especially fond of salmon snacks. As I wait for my forever family, I’m soaking up all the love from my foster parents. I know the perfect match is out there, and I can't wait to share a lifetime of cuddles, loyalty, and endless love with you. Could you be my happily ever after? Located in Toronto. Note from our vet- Burrows length of use will depend on controlling the underlying inflammation/allergy. Many bulldogs do wind up using this long term/life long. However if she has a food allergy and we can remove the allergen from her diet, it may be possible to stop this ear drop regime in the future)

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
